Although there is no association with the Derby City Classic productions and organizers, the Louie Roberts Award will continue.

As has been previously, the Award will be voted on by members of the internet forum community, mainly AZBilliards and OnePocket.org, that attend the event. They can email LouieRobertsAE@gmail.com after they return home from the event to cast their votes. Just say as many or as few people you think deserve consideration (like Hall of Fame voting).

Additionally, non-forum members that are at the event can give their votes directly to me at the event.

Although the Committee still has to work out the details, the Award is still going to the person whom attendees deem to entertain the most in the non-tournament environment.

The biggest change this year: there is no affiliation between the Louie Roberts Award and the Derby City Classic. This is wholly a non-DCC sponsored award.

Thank you,

Freddie Agnir
Louie Roberts Committee Head

--------------------------------

Louis Roberts Award

  • The award is given to the person that exemplifies entertainment in non-tournament settings

Past Recipients:

2003 – Alex Pagulayan
2004 – Tony Watson
2005 – Scott Frost
2006 – Cliff Joyner
2007 – Chris Bartram
2008 – Shane Van Boening
2009 – Scooter Goodman
2010 – Jeanette Lee
2011 – David Peat
2012 - Tony Coleman
2013 – Chris Gentile
2014 – Richie Richeson

Who Gets to Vote:

• Forum members who attend the DCC - this makes YOU (forum members) responsible for the voting
• Other action aficionados that might not frequent forums

Who is Eligible for the Award:

• Anyone who the voter deems worthy of the award based on what the voter feels is exciting and entertaining in the non-tournament settings
• Whatever that means to the voter
• The award doesn’t have to go to a player: a player, backer, sweater, rail bird, etc. can win
• They do not have to be in any tournament
• No previous winner can repeat

Where and How to Vote:

Seek me out at the Derby City Classic ( I arrive Tuesday Jan 27th for the remainder of the week). I will log your votes immediately.

or

For those who cannot find me for some reason at the DCC – email your vote(s) when you get back home to:

LouieRobertsAE@gmail.com (Please be sure to write your Forum Name and when you attended the Derby City Classic)

Send (or tell) as many names as you want. This would be similar to Hall of Fame balloting. For example, if you can't decide whether one guy or another should get your vote, send both if you want. If you think five people deserve to be mentioned, send five names.

Voting Closing and Announcement

Voting Will Close on Sunday Feb 1st at Midnight

The committee will make an announcement as soon possible, targeting within a day of the end of the event. That should give everyone enough time to either give me their votes at the Derby or send me an email when they leave. If you’re planning a one week drive home, you might want to seek me out.

Any questions, concerns or clarifications, please email to

LouieRobertsAE@gmail.com

Regards,

Freddie Agnir

Thanks for the info

Just curious.
How do you determine if the members voting actually attended the derby?

Normally, I ask the voter to give me their username, dates they attended, and what type of matches they saw.

Most of the voters are regulars and have some level of posts and such. It gets pretty obvious who is trying to stuff ballots.

How 'bout the lifetime free room and tourney entries? Are they still part of the award?

There will be all of that hopefully. I'd give a definitive, but we're still finalizing. We'll have an announcement at least when the winner is announced!

Yeah, it's a bit garbled right now.

Why not?

But seriously, we put out a post before the Derby and on the last day every year since... 2006 or so.

Considering that Diamond is no longer affiliating themselves with this award in an official capacity, would probably look bad for them to comp the award's winner for life. Would look like the disassociation was just a farce.

Move it .Screw the casino's,they want all the money.I'am sure greg can find a nice place in atlanta ga,where dawn hopkins had her tournaments and show,in 2010.Big place and lot of parking for everyone.Lot of big name hotels, and very good food for everyone everywhere. Right off I -85 south or north from which way you come from. And nice weather........... Come on gentlemen get off your dead asses, time for a good and great change. 8 million people ,means a big gate with good advertising.Lot of cash in the south. Good weather ,good driving and a HUGE airport. And 2 big pool rooms for action,if needed.Rich aka the skunk.

This is a shame. In a country that has a million forms of legalized gambling that a commission that controls gambling is going to curtail a tradition because they don't get a piece of the action, I'm with Rich, AKA The Skunk, move the event, screw the casino. They make good money off of this as those that attend to play and watch gamble in their casino. Perhaps they need a math lesson on what 100% of zero equals.

GS has a contract with Caesars through 2017. After that, who knows, but I believe he wants to keep it in the Louisville area.

Yes he does. And why wouldn't he too. The Derby is one of the largest events in the country and maybe only second to SBE. It draws large numbers of entries and the spectator turnout aint too shabby either. Derby has become a 3 ring circus act. Maybe that's what it needs to be successful if gambling will eventually be squelched at the Horseshoe.

Just something about the geographic location that works and I do know he doesn't want to move. He does however have aspirations of having a tourney in Atlantic City but that may only be a pipe dream now that the Tunica tourney flopped.

To stay on topic, I have been to DCC since 02 (I think) and the LRA is a big part of it. I hope Greg doesn't lose in this and continues to support it. The all out gambling fracas is what made this tourney what it is today.

Anyone associated with running this tournament, and I'am sure there is a written clause in the contract if they can move or get out at anytime they can,the same way they can be vacated out of the casino too. Rich aka the skunk.

Tunica was destined to fail. Who wants to go to Mississipi in July.

Think of the numbers of pool players near Atlantic City. A Derby style event there would be epic and a near instant success. Have it in November when everybody up here get's into being indoors. AC is hurting so bad he could get a real nice deal with somebody there.

These events just can't exist well outside of casino walls. Unless you want to host this in a facility like SBE will be using. So much nicer in the casino with great accommodations and security.
