I'm quitting APA😞..Lost the local APA Championship last night

Just play open tournaments.

You can see how well you'd match up against the touring players, that play without handicaps.

I'd tried once, but chickened out. My friend advised against it.

Boy you have flown in with a bang you must have been hog tied lurking for all these yrs
seeing these subjects come up a hundred times

If they didn't come up often, it wouldn't be worth maintaining the site.

New interest is good, even if its on old topics.

Classics are the best.

Last night my team lost the local 9ball APA championship. Tied 2-2. Went to the 5th and final match and we lost. I'm NOT upset we lost but because of TWO other factors:
1) Some lower ranked players are not open to learning. They get upset because you called a timeout and things like that. That is not a winning team environment!!
2) Sandbagging. 😤😤 I am a 7 in eight ball and an 8 in 9 ball. Last night I played a guy who I am equal to in terms of skill level. However I am ranked as an 8 he is ranked as a 7 😒. So I had to spot him 10 balls!! 😩 HE DEFINITELY IS AN 8 AND EVERYBODY KNOWS IT!! 💯 I am not 10 balls better than him nor is he 10 balls better than me. However they have a complete sandbagging team. So it was a 65-55 race. When it was all said and done when he got to his 55 balls I had 58!! 😤😤😤

I quit a long time ago when I was a 7 and lost to a 5 who spots me the 8 gambling. After the match the bar owner said if I played on his team he would have made sure I stayed a 5. F'ing APA is mostly for, well I had to erase that part because it was in bad taste

The handicap seems right if the balls were that close but don't you think if you are highest rated in 8ball shouldn't you be highest rated in 9ball also which is an easier game??? so who is the real sandbagger?

2 completely different games. The pattern play in 8 ball is something I struggled with until I took the best advise I ever got. Until then I got crushed in 8 ball against people I would give the 8 and break to in 9 ball.

I never played 8 ball and didn't understand it. I knew I had a problem but couldnt see it.

Nevermind

I played as a 4 missing 3 times before I won - always played 7's and dont think i ever lost. Won MVP. Our whole team was 7's playing as 3,4,5,6,7. I quit after 1 session - dont like cheating

@Bca 8ball I did fly the cue off the table TWICE and I did scratch on the break once also!! So those 3 times may account for my loss!!

What ??? Let me.make sure I understand you here..

You are and 8 and you played 9 ball vs a 7. Correct ?

You gave him bih 3 times on your breaks . Correct ?

At the end of the match the score was him 55 and you 58. Correct ?

Bottom line is you still scored 3 more points than a player that is one level below you after giving him bih 3 times and you are on here complaining about sandbagging ?

Well after thinking about it maybe you are correct in calling him a sandbagger..he oughta murdered you that match with 3 bih's after the breaks.

I am a 5 and several weeks ago I played a 7 who did exactly what you did on his breaks. Cue ball left the table twice and he scratched once. I won 38-22 in a 38-55 race.

Getting all upset like you are getting beat ny only 3 points by a 7 after gibing him bih 3 times you would have went balistic losing to me 38-22 lol

@lorider Lol Nah. If you're really a 5 you can't BEAT ME AT ANY CUE GAME!! ✔ LMAO

@JasonLaus I like that quote about not running any balls in 8ball if you can't run any!!

Well if what you say is true then you are the sandbagger because a decent 5 is capable of running out.....or at least running 6 or 7 balls a rack starting with bih. If he does that 3 times a match he darn near has his required points to win the match. Btw I have been a 6 four times over the Las year but am currently a 5. No.8 should ever lose by 3 points giving a 7 bih in hand after 3 breaks during a match. I still say a legitimate 7 should beat the crap out of a legitimate 8 getting bih on 3 breaks..

Ok, here it is - NEVER MAKE A BALL IF YOU CAN'T MAKE ALL THE BALLS!!! My work is done here.

It will serve you better if you use "never make your fourth ball if you can't run out the rest" The reason is you don't have enough blockers to really play a decent safe, and the table is too open which makes his run easier. And it makes it too easy for him to safe you if he wants to.

I DO NOT believe a SL 5 is running 6-7 balls out of 9 on a regular basis!!

Starting with bih on a wide open table ? Why not. ? And if you can't. You van always play safe. 5's are capable of playing safes also..

@JasonLaus I like that quote about not running any balls in 8ball if you can't run any!!

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was from a friend of mine who is a 9. He drilled it into my head after a few sessions when he was on my team.....if you can't run out , play safe. That advice helped my game tremendously.

It seems to me you have a low.opinion of apa.5's . Let me clue you in on something about handicaps. But first ....you do realize every one has good days and bad days...every one. Now back to handicaps. It's based on your average ability.

Do you know what average means ? It's the difference between your best and your worst . On a bad day a 5 will play like a 3....on a good day a 5 will play like a 7. At least it holds true for me.

Example of a good day for me. I beat a 6 by a score of 19-1 last Sunday

Bad day for.me 4 days later she i lost to a 6 by 18-2

Oh ....i see why you have such a low opinion of 5's. You are in s c.

Now I am not saying all 5's from s.c. Are terrible but I have had 2 's from that area join my teams in the last year. Yea that's right....terrible compared to me or other 5' s in my area. Wasn't long before one of the was lowered to a 4. The other is almost as bad. So bad I made a thread about them lol.

I'm a 5, and do it all the time! As an aside, I'm a 9 ball captain and so frustrated with my SL7 who won't respect my posting decisions. Frustrating!!
