Dennis Searing is making tips now

Well, thanks to everyone for all of the suggestions and jokes about Dell and keyboards.

After 2 wireless keyboards, numerous updates on drivers and firmware the problem has come down to one thing:

I asked the Dell support people if the USB wireless transmitter needed to be in a particular slot on the computer since there were four of them located on the front of the computer. What do you think transpired?

(Ok Dennis Searing, I am buying some of your tips real soon, my apologies for the hijack and simultaneous "bump".)

To bring this post off-topic, it may just be crappy keyboard, but try a different USB port for the receiver, either back or front of PC, or place it on a USB extender cable near the keyboard.

If you want a good typing keyboard with good feel, there are some fake mechanical feel keyboards that are cheap http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...2aVlJuznTYnVFd31Z9HXqBoCZRTw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds , or get a true mechanical, $50 will get you a decent quality one https://www.amazon.com/AULA-Sapphire-Mechanical-Keyboard-Ergonomic/dp/B01BY4Q31K

then just start off with a Hard tip.... that's what they all become

I hear people saying "I hate to replace the tip, it is just now playing the way I like" because they start with a soft and don't like how it feels until it becomes hard.

I was wondering if anyone else had reasoned this out

Ok, set aside my bias about not liking layered tips & ordered a hard. installed last week & put it through its paces over the weekend. All I can say is I'm a believer. Installed nicely, cut beautifully & plays really well. Holds chalk well, amazing grip & holding shape well after about 17 hours of hard play. I'm sold.

If it's clicking it's not the tip, it's the installation error.
It happens. Remove and install another.

Mr Searing contacted me after reading my post and is shipping me a new tip for a buck. I told him I would have it put on and check it out. My tip guy is a friend who also has a table in his shop so we will give the new install/uninstall etc due diligence.
Very nice of him to be pro active with his tips.

Jerry Olivier Custom Cues agrees with this method of making cues no heaver then 18 oz. He does really great design work and this cues hit like a solid McDermott. Medium woody hit feel to it. I have played with one in Vegas. I now used a two feather by Viking Pool Cues. However, for what you are wanting I would reach out to Jerry. He lives and works out of Houston, Texas. Well respected master cue maker in Texas.

Good deal

The clicking sounds like there wasn't enough glue. The only time I've heard clicking is when the installer barely put one tiny drop on the tip. When I popped it off the tip had glue on the middle 2/3rds but nothing from the last third to the edge

I got mine Saturday. Four soft tips. Definitely going to put on Thursday. Depending on what I think I might be ordering more to hold on to

He did a the pre soak on the tip with glue before he installed it. So it should have been good to go. Don't know what happened. We'll figure it out when we put the new one on.

I pre soak my laundry, not my tips ;)

Interestingly enough the only time I've ever had an issue with a tip is from one that I didn't install myself. I'm not saying that I've not biffed a tip or two. I'm saying that it didn't hit a ball that way

I'm not a tip expert. While i was there, my tip guy told me it was soaking up glue pretty fast so he put a layer of glue on it and let it dry before he installed it with more glue. Sorry if me saying it was pre soaked was the wrong terminology. I assumed this is fairly normal installation procedure on layered tips. My tip/cue guy is very experienced. If this is not a preferred method for installing these tips somebody let me know and i'll pass it along.

I installed a soft tonight.

It installed really nice, cut really nice and shaped up really nice. The texture of the tip after I did a final shape and scuff was really really nice.

I'll find out tomorrow how it plays

Here is Dennis explaining his method of priming tips prior to installation:

" My method that always works is as follows...sand the glue side and apply Quick Gel and let it soak for about a minute then glue it to the glossy cover page of a magazine. Next, let the tip dry overnite attached to the magazine before removing the tip. When you remove the tip the back side will be white with the attached paper. The tip is now ready to be sanded and glued to the ferrule."

" Before I came up with this method I tried priming the tip and letting it air dry, but air drying did not harden the glue. Attaching the tip to a magazine allows the glue to harden for a good prime."

Your welcome and Merry Christmas...TommyT

I got mine today and will install later:D
but that sounds very interresting to me:eek::thumbup:

I prime my tips by applying glue to the pre sanded glueside with a cotton Q-tip (most be cotton) it has a quick thermal reaction and hardens nicely. I then sand it with 1000 grit to a smooth very polished flat surface. Then apply glue to ferrule and install

With this method you need a good tip centering tool as there will be almost no work time..it's a near instant bond

When I install tips, I put the gel glue on the sanded tip and spray accelerator on the ferrule. Put tip on the tip holder on lathe then press on and lock down.. Spray a quick spray of accelerator and let set for a few minutes... Then trim... No problems after several years doing it this way....

Installed a medium a while back, here are some pics from the install :)

Prepped the tip with Loctite 401.

Installed tip.

I wont go to spefics yet as to how they play, I need more hours with it and maybe even a harder version of them.
Good quality tips so far though. They have a noticeably muted sound on hit and even when chalking it feels different than other layered tips I have tried. The medium feels to be a little on the soft side but it has been good to play with when I cut it down to 3 layers + dome. I'll chime in better when I get the hard version in and installed as I feel that may suit my game better :)

How have you guys liked them so far?
