What tip would pair best with a thickish, whippy shaft with mid growth maple and a super aramith pro taper?

I use a slip stroke with a firm grip if that factors into your answer.

Under those conditions, there is only one good choice in my opinion; Goodyear Steel-Belted, Clear, Medium or Hard.

I would change the slip stroke to a more natural follow-through and try different tips until it feels right to you.

Tough question.....objective in purpose but totally subjective in responses and replies.

I don't think this one is answerable because life has proven time and time again that

the Roman poet and philosopher Titus Lucretius Carus (known as Lucretius) was

almost prophet like when he wrote............."“Quod ali cibus est aliis fuat acre venenum”.

The long & short of Lucretius' reference is "One man's meat is another man's poison."

A very expensive tip probably would be the ticket.............but a cheap tip could work also.

I would think that the age of the shaft has absolutely no bearing on the tip that should go on it. Why would it pray tell?

An easy question to answer.
Try the new 4Skin tip from Steamer Cue Sports Ltd.
They come in three variations of hardness, and are now color coded for your convenience. White for soft, Tan for medium, and Black for hard.
They are reasonably priced and can be found at pool rooms, and hospital gift shops, nation-wide.

Update: I have elected to go with a single layered tip of salt cured leather harvested from the left butt cheek of a golden lion tamarin. I just hope that it reduces counter clockwise spin on the cue ball. God, I do hate counter clockwise spin.

Just so it's from the left butt cheek. Consistency problems with right butt cheek

Just to be serious for a moment, what tip did you useto play with on your previous cue/shaft?
If you liked that tip, why not start there?

I think it would be in your best interest to go with the slip on tip design, that way you can easily experiment with different tips until you find your desired type.

Here is a very detailed video showing the proper way to install them-
