Right to Left or Left to Right?

It's funny, I was watching someone practice and he was shooting a spot shot with CB on head spot and OB on foot spot and shooting OB
into right corner pocket. He then switched ends and spots with CB and OB but was still shooting into right corner pocket. I asked him why
he practiced that way and he told me he switched ends so he wasn't shooting OB in same direction all the time.
I told him he was still shooting OB from left to right from both ends and that he needed to shoot OB into left corner pocket for right to left.
He paused for a minute, shook his head and started laughing at himself. He then tried some right to left and missed a lot!

Just curious what direction players prefer when practicing and are they making sure they practice from both directions? I've watched some
pretty strong players who intentionally position themselves to shoot the next shot in the same direction most of the time even if getting shape
is more difficult .. game shouldn't be that difficult!

With ball in hand spot shots are pretty easy from either side...

the same cut angle when its a right cut vs left cut can be perceived differently for many people even tho its the same cut angle
many people tend to hit one of them thick and or one of them thin
its good to practice shooting shots to the right and left so you get to know your tendencies and work to correct any misperceptions

That's pretty funny, and awesome that he was a good sport about the correction.

Back in my league days, after a warm up, my last shot attempt would to put the object ball on the foot spot and freeze the cue ball against the head rail at the center diamond. Would pick one corner or the other and shoot. Made it most of the time.

Of course, that was on 9 foot Gold Crown IIIs. Not sure how that would work on a Diamond. Will give that a try tomorrow.

From Dr Dave's sight, I got Collins drill.

The number 1 shot is a favorite for my left hand VS right hand competition. If a choice is available I prefer the cut that takes the ball to the pocket on the side my body is on. A forehand VS backhand comparison. I don't think my percentage is better one way or another. The forehand cut just feels more better. 😉
With that said, I practice the backhand cuts more, as often the forehand side puts the body in conflict with that table. That means the backhand cut with the other hand is a natural stance.

Si the 20 year old Chinese player that just beat Murphy in the 9-9 decider put the ambidextrous skill on display.

Why would the table matter?

Got a link?
anybody?
I watched on DAZN and finished a short while ago. The match should be available in the archives for a while. Tomorrow Vafai VS Ronnie match alone should be worth the $25 months subscription . I just canceled the second day and have to fade the renew request every time I open the app.
