Tip talk

Picked up a few thoroughbred tips. Tried giving the Moori MS an extended grace period, but I can't get on with it. Will throw a TB one on later and give it a review. Also going to change the sonic tip from my ignite break shaft. Finally fed up of it going flat over and over. I have one Taom, and one bulletproof tip, haven't decided what to put on the end yet. But will review that too.
The Sonic tip was a nice hit, but feel it keeps losing shape due to its age. It was a first generation Ignite break shaft, that I got from a friend.

Anyone used Taom or Bulletproof break tip here willing to chime in?

I do a fair bit of jumping with the break cue as I am tall, I know the Taom is listed as a break/jump tip, but have seen a few people stating the softer material of the Bulletproof doesn't get the ball up too well (maybe it will help being on a stiff carbon shaft rather than wood?). Thinking to try the Taom first, unless someone can tempt me otherwise, as I can always sell the BP for an inflated price where I am located.
I have two break shafts. One has a Lexan (Bulletproof), and the other has a White Diamond 2.0, I believe. My experience with both has been limited. Having used the original White Diamond before, I have some familiarity. That being said, right now I am leaning towards the WD in terms of preference.
That may change if I ever get the chance to continue testing.
👍

Thanks for your thoughts. My friend installed a WD on his Breach a while back, and I have had the chance to hit with that a fair bit. I think because I am so familiar with the soft, almost bouncy feel to the Sonic, I initially didn't like it. There is no denying it imparts momentum well, and he has no trouble blowing the rack apart with it. I have been tempted to grab one, as they are readily available here. I also considered the SAI tip, though that Is quite expensive here from what I can see. I have had a yellow Taom I was given a long time ago kicking around my case, and then also the bulletproof tip which I was gifted not long ago.

The reason I didn't change to the Taom a while back was because my friend said that his wore very unevenly on the tip edges due to contact with the cloth. But I have since heard good things about them, and consider that maybe he just had bad luck with his somewhere down the line.

Currently, I am leaning toward the Taom based on what I have heard about the bulletproof not being ideal for jumping. I can always change it and give it a try later I suppose. If the Taom works, I can sell the BP at a decent mark up here. Having a little trawl on here, I do see some good things to be said about the BP tip.

Very good. Can't wait to hear your thoughts. 😎👍
I am hoping for the best, and looking forward to the change. Pains me to talk badly of a gift, but the Moori MS didn't quite meet what I was looking for. Tried one on two shafts. One shaft I used two of them on, just to see if I got a bad one. Just didn't play right for me.

Funny thing about tips. Occasionally, you can find one of nearly every make that plays ok. I have a Cuetec Avid shaft that I am currently using as my main player. The standard tip on that shaft is an Everest, which I generally can't stand. When I got the shaft, I just decided to shape the tip, chalk it up, and take it the pool hall. I'm honestly surprised how well this particular tip is playing. Granted, when it's time for a change, I will switch it to a Thoroughbred...That being said, every once in a while you get a pleasant surprise.

I love my bulletproof on my breaker. Pechaur Black Ice shaft.

No jumping personally but I put one on a friend’s and he likes it for jumping too.

As usual personal preference with tips. I tried the White Diamond, but did not like it. It broke well, but I hated the feel of it. I like the Bulletproof much better.

I have installed a lot of Samsara break tips and people love it.

Interesting, I have read a few comments that deemed it as a little soft for jumping. But come to think of it, the Sonic has a rubbery feeling, and I have no trouble with that.
Let's see how I feel when I get home from work. Might flip a coin and let fate decide.

I also hear good things about the Samsara, but like the SAI I can't find a price I like for it here. I think we are in the same boat on the WD.

Yeah, such material and the nature of 'feel' makes it entirely subjective.

Thanks for the help guys.

I'm usually a fan of soft tips but I recently had a Taom Fusion fitted and have been impressed with it. Feels very much like a medium tip but it really does grab the cue ball.

Please factor in the placebo that comes with 'shiny new thing syndrome' - but I am very happy with these so far.

I am really happy with the BP break tip, it is harder than I had expected from what I had read previously. Certainly harder than a Mezz Sonic. 9 and 10 ball break were both working for me right off the bat. 8ball break needed to dial down the power slightly to keep the same control I had with the Sonic. And contrary to what I had read in other posts, It jumps no problem at all, really well in fact. Holds chalk very well too. Going to see how the shape holds up. Very satisfied.

The TB playing tip felt nice immediately, but I think that is largely because I was playing with something that I didn't like that was too soft before, so the hardness was instantly welcomed. It is slightly harder (by my own subjective feel) than some other M rated tips that I have used. I played a series of follow, draw and punch shots, and it performed perfectly.

Will give both a little more time and update, but would happily recommend both to anyone at this point.

Couple weeks of playing the TB tip, it still hits super solid. I've really put it through its paces, playing nearly everyday for a few hours (except weekends) No mushrooming. Holds its shape very well (I've only run the pick/scuffer over it once). Hits just a fraction harder than what I think is a medium and I am really happy with that. It can Massé, jump a little, get every bit of juice I need on the cueball. Great recommendation from @j2pac - glad I put in the bit of effort to get a hold of some. Really impressed with it. Even being imported here it wasn't overly expensive as some tips are. Welcome to DM for some videos of some shots I have made. Really does feel a world of difference from the Moori MS I was using before. this medium TB tip is slightly harder than MW supertips Medium which I really liked.

The BP break tip plays real nice, hits like the first day I got it. Still adjusting a little, but I am happy with it. Really proves you shouldn't always listen to reviews you read on the internet, as it jumps super well. Transfers power very well, and I am still over hitting an 8ball break occasionally because of this. Can get the ball screwing into the pack in the MR 9ball break with next to no effort/thought. Plays like a canon into a WPA 9ball break - maybe I am hitting this harder than I need to, but my God it's fun haha 10ball break works almost robotically.

Heard good things about the Thoroughbread. Might have to test with my new shaft. May I ask if you are using a wood or CF shaft?

Glad you are getting on with the Thoroughbred tip. I'm still using them, and will for as long as they are offered.
😎👍

Always will be wood for me. Zen Xpro. Worth a try :)

I picked up a few, and I am keen to see if the next one will play just as nicely when the time comes.

Has anyone other than me tried the Bulletproof playing tip? I’m about 4 months into my test run. I like it. The key is to scuff it with 80 grit.

People destroy a good playing Tip buy over using Tip Tools. My Tip Tool is small square of 220 Sandpaper, that is used for PRN roughing up. Plus a NEW Dollar Bill to keep Mushroom under controls. I see people every 5 minute of plays:confused:, working the Tip with some Tip Tool, and they keep the Tip replacement Person business.
