Pool Chalk……Constantly Evolving……..What’s the Future?

I’ve tried several different chalks recently but my favorite out of all of them has to be the Kamui Kageki chalk in grey. For now that is my go to until I see what the future holds.

If you chalk every shot it really does not mater--and that is where Masters shines.
If you don't you should and return to previous statement.
I don’t even know about that lol I forgot my kamui a couple years ago but since Im a stickler for doing everything the same every shot I used the masters chalk the same way . Left it at my case and chalked 1 times in between games. I had no issues. No miscues. Now could I rip long draw shots one after another like I do at home when practicing I’m not sure. But for basic play it was fine.
If you chalk every shot, it kinda does matter because you deposit chalk on the cloth when stroking the cue ball.

And Masters does the same thing as TAOM which is to create friction but it accomplishes it releasing the chalk
you just applied to your cue tip. It doesn’t just float away and the chalk gradually builds up in your table cloth.

Now if cleanliness of the table, pool balls, and your cue shaft and ferrule are not consequential to you, it’s fine.
Better players don’t over apply chalk so they tend to do a better job at not unnecessarily creating a chalk mess.
Exactly. Clean my table once a week at home and the difference is pretty big. Taom was clean but I didn’t like it. I loved kamui but it was to mess. Kamui Roku seemed right in the middle and I like that.

I wasn't overly impressed by Kageki, left a lot of chalk on the cue ball, reminded me a lot of the 0.98. I much prefer the Roku, much cleaner, a lot like the V10.

need a tip made out of something like silicone, very grippy and instead of chalking it, just wipe it with a damp cloth to remove dust/debris.

Make a tip out of the same stuff they made the Wham-O Super Balls out of, whitey would LEAP off your cue tip!!!

So I wondered how chalk sales are going for pool supply stores? Do players still have brand allegiance for pool chalks? I just bought a piece of TAOM V10 on Walmart’s website for $4.19 (shipped with taxes incld was only $10.57). The same chalk on Pool Dawg is $19.99 plus tax and shipping. Walmart was less than 1/2 the price. .I was going to order a larger quantity but I realized I’d likely never really need the chalk since it lasts so long. TAOM seems to atop the totem pole for the best pool chalk. If you want to try it, check out Walmart’s website pricing. One cube of TAOM V10 for under $11 is a fantastic price.
plus 4.99 shipping
Once that chalk arrives, don't forget to come back and tell us if it REAL v10 or masters green squished into a round shape.

When I first walked in a pool room in 1961, I was in total awe of the number of pool tables and so many pool cues on
the wall racks. It was a new experience having only played in the basement or gymnasium of the local school’s
summertime activities programs. When I picked up my first rack of pool balls from the counter man, he tossed in a few pieces of chalk that I paid little attention to.

Down through the years, my interest in pool exploded and I became addicted just like so many other readers. My initial
fascination was focused on pool cue designs that eventually lead to my interest in pool cue construction. Along the way, I stumbled up different brands of pool chalk but never really settled on one brand. As long as a cube of chalk still had a good shape, that was fine with me.

Then about a dozen, maybe more, years ago, more elite brands of chalk started appearing boasting of being able to chalk on Sunday and play until Tuesday without having to reapply chalk again to your cue tip. And of course, cleanliness which became a very important criteria for me so I have ivory ferrules on all my cues to avoid any chalk staining. Cue shafts also get dirty from chalk so that was another reason to use chalk that didn’t create a mess, as well as minimizing chalk buildup in the table cloth. Ever use a rainbow vacuum on a pool table? The effluent can start looking like a river of blue mud. So chalk brand gradually became more important over time to many players.

I became a fan of Blue Diamond Chalk and used it for years. Still have a dozen brand new boxes. Another brand was Magic Chalk that I tried as well. It seemed like new chalk brands were popping up all the time and then it settled down and Dr. Dave did a great review on different pool chalk brands. I saw a F/S thread for a large quantity of MC and so I wondered how important is pool chalk nowadays with pool players? I was pretty indifferent about which designer (pricey) chalk was the best and resisted paying crazy prices until TAOM.

It seems to me TAOM has become hugely popular and price isn’t important. I have been playing with the same piece of TAOM for over a year and bought a box of Pagulayan chalk because I prefer the cube shape to oval. The Pagulayan chalk is fantastic and so it dawned on me that the 3 pieces of TAOM chalk (oval & cube) will probably last several years. The chalk is absolutely the cleanest chalk I’ve ever seen.

Does the site say this is Taom? At that price 99% surely a fake product that has V10 stamped on it, inferior quality of course.

All my life I’ve placed the chalk on the rail right-side-up to keep it clean. But, since V10 is round, and harder to manipulate, I’ve started replacing it upside-down, since the rail (like the balls & cloth) still stays clean!

Step one for sure. In the 90s those I talked to said too much grip. I think you run into problems with residue as well.

Honestly if you take one of the Bulletproof recoil hard and chalk it with V10 you can play for half a dozen racks and it still has chalk.
That is my setup, I don't know about 6 racks but you definitely don't need to chalk as often, so that V 10 chalk that lasts forever lasts even longer, is cleaner, now if they can invent missed shot proof chalk.......

Once a rack has been my habit for years. I keep the chalk back at my cues so I don’t let it sit.

I find it hard to believe Walmart is trying to rip off their customers by selling a fake V10 chalk for under $5.
I’ll let you know if it’s real or not but I’m highly confident it is authentic. I could be wrong but I really doubt I am.

Taom V10 $11.00 out. Seems most of the pool stuff is independent sellers.

Good ol Russian magic
I bought a box of Blue Diamond in 2012. Then Magic Chalk came along. As you can see, I have more than I’d use th3 remainder of my life. Of the two, I preferred Blue Diamond for price and comparable performance versus Magic Chalk.

But as Dr. Dave has articulated with precise explanations, empirical data and high speed camera, all chalks perform
alike which is to create friction and avoid miscuing. If you chalk after every shot, then there is perhaps a perceivable
miniscule difference but not so discernible as to crown any chalk as the best performing chalk. However, there is
irrefutable evidence that some chalks are much cleaner and do not require frequent, regular application to your tip.

To the best of my knowledge and personal experience, TAOM V10 has to rank as one of the best chalk for less frequent
application, avoiding needless chalk marks on the cue ball, casting off chalk dust from stroking and overall cleanliness.
When applied your cue tip by lightly swiping or brushing, V10 lasts a incredibly long time. My 1st piece is over a yr old.

The pool hall that I have an annual membership just received new Simonis gray cloth to recover all the Diamond 7’ &
tables. TAOM doesn’t offer a gray color chalk so the closet they make is a light blue. Well, thank goodness both TAOM & Pagulayan chalk, despite mine are green, is so clean it won’t matter in the slightest but TAOM does offer a light blue.

I really do miss playing on Simonis green cloth which happens to be my favorite color but they also have a blue green
that looks great. The Simonis dark green & English green don’t appeal to me as much so if not green, tournament blue.

So when it comes to chalk, use whatever you want but please always apply it to your tip away from the table’s cloth. It
irks me to no end to see a pool slob squeak chalk on his cue tip twisting it like a bolt nut directly over the table’s cloth.
You’ll discover little flake pieces of their excess chalk that never went on their cue tip & specs that came off by stroking.

I became accustomed to playing on Tournament Blue so I hope playing on the gray color cloth will be the same. I have
reservations but this isn’t my pool room The owners want to try a new, different look from the other local pool rooms.

Chalk is just something people are constantly trying to reinvent, make better, and the more hype you can attach to Super Chalk the bigger the price. I use Master, Triangle, or Silver Cup, as I have a supply. If I Chalk between shots, it works fine.

Bought and tried the V-10 Green it was clean, but it never made it possible for me to run top 14/1 Record close to Willie Mosconi. Sold it removed my money I spent like fool, because I believe BS.

I Chalk between each shot, I do not miscue buy once in Blue Moon, and IMHO Chalk is Chalk. Dr. Dave my Hero does Chalk Review on U-Tube, his find are their if you interested in his EXPERT OPINION. He is not hyping, or selling CHALK.

Master Chalk is made in USA, Skip at Master the companies owner is good person, he support Pool. He makes Triangle also.

As I said Master, Triangle, and last Silver Cup are good solid Chalk's that work. Why spend over $20.00 for a single piece of Super CHALK. that is the latest greatest unless you playing almost as good as Mosconi, SVB, or, and chasing them to be the BEST?
