2026 WNT Ranking event- Chinese Taipei Open, 8-11 Jan2026, Winner $30K

Random but I was today years old when I learned Roberto Gomez was one 9ball away from winning the 2007 World Pool Championship against Daryl Peach...

It popped up on my YouTube feed. I didn't even know he's been playing that long.
Small correction: Roberto Gomez was one 9 ball away from getting onto the hill. He probably would have won the match if he made it, though. When he missed, Daryl Peach was left with a hanger to get onto the hill.

Earlier in the same rack, Gomez just needed a stop shot on a medium range 5 ball to continue an easy out.

Probably the most heartbreaking match and collapse I can remember, since the crowd was behind Gomez all the way (the tournament was hosted in the Philippines that year).

Wow, pleasure watching the TV matches. Perfect camera use and great use of the telestrator. Matchroom, Predator and Accu Stats need to go to school on this production.

Congratulations big Ko!

the production was good for sure, but not really on par with MR or accustats. telestrator guy knew his stuff. ref was weak on soft breaks..

Everyone can have their opinion. Many, many, many times Matchroom, Predator and Accu Stats cut away from a rolling CB to show the player's face or audience or some crap like that. If you are into those things, I understand.
Also, sometimes their close ups are so tight that you can't even see where the CB is going. Didn't see this happening in this production.

yea, good point and i agree, but that's only one small part of the production.

What the big part of the production other than catering to the viewers so they can enjoy the match?

By the way, I agree on the soft breaks you mentioned before. Seems like a lot of players were getting away with soft breaks.

However, these soft breaks were not the Corey Duel type where all the balls were in the same half table. The ball were spreading well all over the table so I don’t think the soft breaks were that bad, but I am not an expert on this subject.

Could be wrong here but i think the video/stream production was done using WNT.tv production staff but with local commentators. Fullcan is part of CPBA. Big pool-related outfit in Taiwan. I know they promote events but didn't think they had a in-house video production arm.

I would be very surprised if it’s the wnt camera crew and director. This is just a satellite event, not one of the majors, I think.
Could have been local outfit for sure. They do dig their pool over there for sure.

Don’t recall anyone in recent times winning both warmup event & the main event.
Enjoyed last few matches. I like that these match winners had to make a tough shot to win match

Ronel kicking in 3 ball hill hill in semi v FSR

Ko jumping in 7 ball on the hill in final

Surprised that arena is packed full house (maybe it is small arena). Taiwan pool in slump shadow of its former self. Read somewhere that few decades ago at height of pool boom, Taiwan had 5000 pool halls now only a fraction few hundred halls only.

Yes big blow to Gomez.
Other drama in that same WPC is Buste vs Peach match where Buste potted 9ball but was ruled correctly as foul by ref after long deliberation.

Most of these ranking events also have edge over MR in (a) they have more tables streamed 5 tables while MR is very stingy 2-3 tables only and (b) they are free and usually on Youtube. Wnttv player interface is horrible compared to Youtube

They sure could have done better on the arena. Had some spectators standing up.
