Psychology bachelor’s thesis on neurocognitive aspects of pool billiards – participants wanted

ping pong provide tougher challenges
Research Marty Reisman. He did half time exhibition with The Globe Trotters. He could strike with the knife edge of the paddle. And glance the ball from the table edge..
🤔 I have an educated guess as to what he is looking it when he hit it. 🤷‍♂️
I was recreation room attendant and had spare time with tables, balls and walls. Pretty good for kerning (er uh learning) angles then spin induced variations.
I had the opportunity to face the #1 Asian at exhibition. Oh MY! At warm ups, I smoked a forehand past his paddled hand.
His eyes narrowed and expression changed from cordial to, uh? PISSED Off.
I could see what he put in the ball and yet couldn't counter act the incredible spin he would apply to the ball. I was a sacrifice Al lamb. I was probably B+ to A- at the time of the exhibition. I had a Monday night work out with the best in Redding CA foe around a year.
Of course after just do it yourself training in high school I was somehow an early admission to the ready room with pool And ping pong tables. As a Basic Cadet in amongst the First Class cadets. The look er uh expression of the King of the table when I out performed him on the field of friendly strife.Ooops. He still had the ability to influence my Training. We transition to the pool table and I got my first lesson in pool. Whew, he saved face. There was some kibitzin as base commanders placed wagers. Friendly wagers at the right pay grade. Shrug 🤷‍♂️
Well Fly Boy was of epic reputation. He was a tail gunner on a B-52. 2 week long ready room assignments gave him significant practice time.

Yes but...
:ROFLMAO:

I meant the dyslexic cognivity in that you have to shoot to manipulate the opposition into a fail situation.

Possibly. To me, the sample group - pfft, the sample <genre> will never be big enough to provide conclusive results. I imagine the Euro view would be more optimistic.
Well from a scientific view of things, it needs for my Hypothesis (plural) and within a defined margin of error around 200 participants, as long as they are evenly devided in the different skill levels. The more the better but we would have some 2.500 plus in Austria alone (competitive amateurs) and from all skill levels, so 10% out of this population could already serve the purpose.

Fair enough.

Plural of hypothesis is hypotheses. (had trouble spelling that lol)

Not to give you homework, but a hypothesis I have often wondered about is whether ability to mentally rotate shapes is inversely related to ability to intuitively distinguish one's right from left. I've always been good at rotating shapes, I can usually tell you which way north is, but i.hsve difficulty with left and right and I suspect it has to do with a weak sense of embodied perspective.

Maybe shape rotation is a kind of weakness in the sense that, "you are here and facing this way."

Anyway, cool project. I look forward to seeing your results.

My study investigates whether neurocognitive abilities can predict performance in pool billiards. The central hypothesis is that successful pool players differ from less successful players in specific cognitive skills that are directly relevant to the game, especially mental rotation, spatial reasoning, motion prediction, visual anticipation, and intuitive physics.
I think you're going to find that's true.

I would think that neuro cognitive abilities differ in boys and girls becouse of their "supposed" or should i say traditional roles in life.
Like men are hunters and women are gatherers.
So they are raised up in a different manner.
But in the beginning, i think we are all tabula rasa.
I wonder what the result will tell you?
🖖
I'm not so sure it's all nurture vs nature. Hormones like testosterone play a large part in the growth regions of mens brains responsible for NC processing.

You've got the numbers.👍🏻

If I'm not mistaken, the hippocampus and parietal lobes are responsible for your embodiment perspective.
Parietals take in the senses input and the hippo processes it, telling you where you are in relation to said space.
Underdevelopment or damage to either will result in what you speak of.
It gets a bit more complicated than that, but this is the gist of it.
Several other brain regions contribute to give the final best result. Didn't mention these as I have forgotten which ones they are. Been a while, ya know??😂

One thing I've often wondered is how many top level players are also musicians or musically inclined??
Seems like I ran into many of the aforementioned in my day.
Curious. Hmm....🤔

Lotta street people involved in both. It's part of the pacification of the masses and for many, cool stuff to do/express/portray/soothe whatever hurts/...

Hollywood Billiards - Jay Helfert's place I think (never been), was over or under a popular rehearsal studio on Sunset. If they had any curiosity, the streams would have permanently intertwined.

I guess it is a sepparate issue: "Difficulty with left and right" but no difficulty with rotating shapes or predicting trajectories correctly and that even when you need to take counter effets into consideration and a lot of other factors. Dyslexia for instance is a quite isolated phenomena, as strange as this might appear.
