Funny pic/gif thread...

For me this reminds me of where I grew up along the highline of Montana the passenger trains were called the Empire Builder , I've got a strange feeling that I've seen this train in person as a kid , yes I could very well be mistaken but the local paper would learn about a special event or load that would be passing through the small town it would be front page news ha ha .
What can I say that's just one of the many joys of small town life !

Um, yeah I do.

A billion is 1,000 million.*

A trillion is 1,000 billion or a million million.

Yeah, 1,000 x 11 days is 11,000 days or over 30 years. Not a surprise.

* Traditional British/European billion was 1,000,000 million. US switched to the “short “ version (1,000 million) in the 19th century. UK switched in 1974.
How could 1,000 times (add three zeroes) be equivalent to 1,000,000 times (add six zeroes)? “Short version” means fewer zeroes…?

It simply means that the value of billion used to be a million million. In the 19th century the US officially changed the meaning of the word to a thousand million, which is referred to as the “short” version meaning of the word. The UK officially changed in 1974.

So a billion was what we now call a trillion? Didn’t know that… thanks.

Wonder what they called what we now call a billion…?
