Apa 9 ball is such a weird game sometimes. Anyone can win on a given night and is largely dependant on the rolls. You definitely do not want 6's that should be 5's on your team. You can try a few things but the reality is most players think they are better than they are.

This is how I have always felt. As long as you are on the correct shot line and hit the CB where you intend to. It should not matter if you have your eyes closed or are looking at the girl at the bar.

I don't know if this will help you but it has worked for me.

I think you have set realistic expectations and if that is what will make you happy you should go for it.
Find an instructor! it is worth it. Work on your fundamentals and you will get there.
I think it depends on the person you are playing and how willing they are to give you tips. I am lucky that the "way better" player that I usually play against will give good advice most of the time.
Playing either player it is important to try to learn a few things while you are in the chair.
I think it depends largely on the player base for your area. It took a long time to get it running for us and we are only playing to max 18 for 3 players. We don't have many "super" 7's in our area and couldn't get much interest.
