Got talked into my first league night

If you don't get enough from the social aspect of league play to make things like wait times or unknowledgeable players tolerable, you probably shouldn't play leagues.

For format of the CSI ten-ball was complete rubbish.

A level playing field ensures the best competition? What exactly does that mean? The term "level playing field" alludes to sports that are played end-to-end (like tennis, basketball, or even ping pong) where a slope would be an advantage to one side or the other. Leveling the playing field...

For format of the CSI ten-ball was complete rubbish.

None of these has lengthened matches, either. Pool used to be races to 7, not 11 or more. That said, I still find a bowling or a tennis match unwatchable, and I suspect I wouldn't sit through a golf telecast if they just showed one player all day. I still rarely sit through a whole broadcast...

    League Schedule help desperately needed.

Ah, the 10-team dilemma. 14 teams is also hard, and I suspect 18 is hard too. All 3 are numbers that are not divisible by 4, and 4 is what you need to switch up the home/away pattern and work in the twice at home / twice away combinations. The closest I've been able to get is one team plays...

[UPDATED] APA complaint advice - My new-to-pool player went to a 7 in 7 matches (?!?!)

It does. And the default answer is "no", so you really have to be on your game to mess that one up. Plus there would be a second warning immediately, even if you somehow got past the first. I don't see how it's possible unless whoever did the input really did think it said 1.

[UPDATED] APA complaint advice - My new-to-pool player went to a 7 in 7 matches (?!?!)

You didn't say you told her about Arlington. You only said you told her you were pretty sure you should be a 6. I get that sometimes, players who haven't played in a while mis-remembering their skill level. I didn't know if you told her about the other area or not. Since you say you did, the...

[UPDATED] APA complaint advice - My new-to-pool player went to a 7 in 7 matches (?!?!)

Whenever you play in a different area, you play under a different number. The last five digits (what you see on the scoresheet) may be the same, but the first three aren't. The League Operator can see all the numbers, including the ones in other areas, and when you started back in Tarrant...

[UPDATED] APA complaint advice - My new-to-pool player went to a 7 in 7 matches (?!?!)

Not really. Here's the association with you and Fargo, from this thread. I even said what hang-the-9 said word-for-word, so you and he would recognize it. He said it, you agreed. > ChicagoRJ: Great point.

[UPDATED] APA complaint advice - My new-to-pool player went to a 7 in 7 matches (?!?!)

I don't know how that answers the question, which was "Why can't someone be a 7 after just seven matches?".

[UPDATED] APA complaint advice - My new-to-pool player went to a 7 in 7 matches (?!?!)

What if he really is a 7? He'd be underrated in every match until he got there. I think you should always take your best guess, even if you only have seven data points. I guess you're saying it's better to be too low than too high. Equating it to a baseball MVP is absurd, too, but you...

[UPDATED] APA complaint advice - My new-to-pool player went to a 7 in 7 matches (?!?!)

7 matches is a pretty small sample size, so I'm not sure what the LMAO is for. That one score, even in a loss, could take the place of some other score that's not as good. That's how one "goes up" on a loss. With a sample size of 7 that kind of stuff is more likely. Just like other systems...

[UPDATED] APA complaint advice - My new-to-pool player went to a 7 in 7 matches (?!?!)

I'll tell you what you don't say. You don't say he's being fucked. That will get your email flushed without a second look. Most likely there's nothing the LO can do, except check for input errors, like inputting a 12 instead of a 1 for defensive shots (fat fingers) or scoresheet errors, like...

can passive income be made as a league operator?

First, half of what I charge ($30, it's public info, in my bylaws) goes into the Players Fund, which is used only for benefits given directly to players (trophies, travel assistance, prize money, etc.) and monitored closely by APA. So cut your number in half right away. Then do it again...

can passive income be made as a league operator?

I can confirm that the first article was written by someone like Cocobolo Cowboy. To summarize, they greatly exaggerate the revenue and greatly underestimate the costs. It is possible to make a living as an APA league operator. I wasn't able to exist solely on income from the league until I...
