    Rug or no Rug?

I built an addition on my house designed for my Gold Crown, reinforced floor, 3 4 tube florescent lights, carpeted with a bar, of course. I liked the carpet, especially as one ages. I prefer wall to wall if that works but 5" all around is best. I moved the table to a non-carpeted house and it...

    1950’s Cue Builders, List

I went to school with Richard Helmstetter when he started making cues around 1960. You already may have him since he did get famous making cues and golf clubs.

    Helmstetter VIP question....??

Great Summary! I was in school with him at the UW and we spent way too much time in the Memorial Union Pool Hall. He was a lover of 3 rail billiards and tried to get me to play but I like straight pool and nine ball so that's what we normally played. One day he brought in a metal joint that he...

The smaller pockets are helping the weak players, its very deep and people don't see it.

I Agee with you. Smaller pockets are making the game more safety oriented and boring due to players not going for difficult shots. It makes the same amount of sense as changing the 4 and 5 ball color. Of course if you like watching balls rattling in the pocket and sitting there for the next...

Cue stick stroke with a spin.

That would not work for me however, many people have not standard aspects to their setup and stroke and are quite successful. Most of us old guys (I'm 81) had shorter bridges and a more upright stance. So do what works for you but try the approach being taught by the teaching pros of today. Good...

Best Pool Player you saw alive, regardless.

Watched Willie Mosconi in the early 60's while in college. Played Jimmy Caras in an exhibition match at the University of Wisconsin Memorial Union Great Hall. Played Bill Cress a few times and Richard Helmstetter all the time in school. Bought my Gold Crown III from Jerry Briesath. It would be...

Did you win or lose the biggest match of your life?

Well I guess loosing to Jimmy Caras in the University of Wisconsin Great Hall (Memorial Union) in front of a pretty big crowd was big for me. In 1963 I think. Both Richard Helmstetter and I got to play San Lynn Merrick (1962 Co-ed Intercollegiate Pool Champion). These exhibitions were for...

Pia Filler Makes History as First (and only) Female Pro on WNT

Most people would at least try to hide their misogyny and homophobia in public but not you.

    1950’s Cue Builders, List

Went to UW Madison with Richard Helstetterter when he first started making cues. He went to Japan for a while then sold his business. He ended up making golf clubs the most famous being the Big Bertha. I still use one of his cues.
