Things I Don't Understand at the Pool Room

This. But you shouldn’t have to tip. It’s common sense to spread out the customers and backfill as people come in. But let’s face it, Americans need their entitlement to personal space and that’s not changing anytime soon.

Smaller Pockets Don’t Always Play Smaller … Dr. Dave Evaluates His New Rails and Pockets

Understood, no doubt. 😊 Guess I’m saying If I showed up blindly encountering the old configuration I would have thought the pockets would play large solely based on the looks. I don’t go around with calipers and the TDF thread before I play on unknown tables, but I guess there’s a first time...

Smaller Pockets Don’t Always Play Smaller … Dr. Dave Evaluates His New Rails and Pockets

Great to see this transformation. I was surprised the old rails/pocket setup was actually tougher. No doubt the old pockets appear more inviting and comfortable. I suppose it all comes dowm to perception. I feel that pockets shouldn’t tighten much if balls and cloth are kept religiously...

Any videos of Dr Dave in an actual match?

I can envision an instructors tournament. Call it the Briesath Cup. Invitations only. Dr. Dave, Fran, Billiards about and Ron the Pool Student vs. Sharivari, Barry Stark, Barton Snooker and the Pool School guy. 😄 Bob can officiate. Open for suggestions. Kidding of course, but this idea...

    Pechauer Cues

I’ve got three and a break. Got the first one 10-15 years ago a JPUSA. Still use it on the road. The other two are JP17-Q and JP05-M. Of course there plenty of great cues, but I think my Pechauers are great otherwise I wouldn’t have 4 of them.

    Your First Time

Great topic. Mine came in stages, first pool table memories come from visitng neighborhood friends homes whose parents had a table. Maybe I was 5. We’d just roll the balls around, but there was something about those colors and numbers that reeled me in. I think first time using a cue was on...

    Humidity

Maintaining 50% RH indoors during a midwestern summer is good in my opinion. I’ve got hygrometers running in both the house and detached pool room and they are steady 50% RH with AC set around 72/73F. On the flipside winter gets considerably dry, and I actually need a humidifier in the pool...

    Home Room Project

The light is a 9’ Perimeter Light which is suspended and LED. https://perimeterbilliardlights.com/products/perimeter-billiard-pool-table-lights-9ft The carpet is just an afterthought and usually gets moved under the table with serious play. My plan eventually is a 12x15 area rug mainly to...

2025 AZ Billiards Straight Pool Challenge!

Today I finally broke 16. It wasn’t exactly conventional, and I can’t confirm the exact run, but I definitely made it through a rack. My 14.1 practice usually entails shooting until I miss and then taking BiH. So today I was about half way through a rack and ran it down to the below diagram...

EYE PATTERN “Best Practices” … Cue Ball or Object Ball Focus Last?

I gave CBL a college try and it’s just strange. OBL for-life here. And whenever my mechanics seem to go awry, nothing makes them sharpen up than a conscious effort on eye pattern and focusing on the OBL. The only times CBL makes sense to me is massé/jumping but those will not be in my...

Old Matches - How important is commentary?

Modern commentary might work if the commentators had some close connection to the match, tournament and/or players. Otherwise I agree with Fatboy. Scoring graphics would be welcomed.
