2025 AZB Ghost Challenge - Official Thread

Tried something different this past week, played a 10 Ahead set against the 9 ball ghost my last 3 practice sessions. Definitely takes more focus and more consistency than a normal Ghost set. First two attempts were about the same, fluctuated between being even, up 3-4 games, or down 3-4...

2025 AZB Ghost Challenge - Official Thread

First post in the Ghost Challenge in quite a long time. I call this the Matchroom Ghost challenge - Race to 11, 9 ball racked on the spot, Matchroom Break Box and a 9' table with 4" corner pockets. Scratch on the break brings any made balls back up to the spot (This rule is a killer in this...

Break cue.. the most over hyped cue in our bag?

100% on this. I picked up a J&J Jump Break from their website in 2010 I believe and it's still in my case today. Might have been $97 + shipping back then. I think it was about 10 years in the original phenolic tip popped off, after that long i really couldn't be too upset. Tried a couple of...

US Open (9 ball) 2024, August 19-24, Atlantic City

Those are stretch shadows, caused by the cloth not being stretched exactly evenly along that side of the table. While they will not affect playability, they don't look great under the tv lights. Looking at the photo you can tell by the shadows that the right side of the table is the achor...

    2024 APA 9-Ball League Final

100% right. I always think wow, everyone in the comments section must be a 750 fargo used to playing live TV matches on ESPN the way they would get out from every situation and make it sound easy. Any of the competitors that make it to that point are obviously playing well and having a great...

APA, FARGO and the death of 8 ball.....

Totally agree, and if you have not been there recently the APA's Championship Arena has come a long way...Table surrounded by elevated stands on 3 sides and an elevated commentators booth on the other. Bright lights, table conditions slightly different from what you played on all week leading...

Another work trip, Wayne NJ, where to go?

There are no weekly tournaments I’m aware of at Breaker Billiards, Clifton Billiards, or Castle Billiards. Of the three, Castle is the nicest to go and practice, nice tables bar food and full bar/liquor. I will also say this about Shooters in Wayne…If going there just to hit balls the first...

Another work trip, Wayne NJ, where to go?

Shooters has a weekly Friday Night handicapped tournament, that’s the only tourney night for them. Rockaway Billiards is “supposed” to have a Thursday night handicapped 9 ball tournament though they did not have enough to run the tourney last week. Sandcastle which you mentioned is too far...

Colleges in the US that have an active pool team/community?

I was in the University of Pittsburgh Billiards club from 2000-2005. Played the ACUI Regionals and came in 2nd two times just missing the nationals, though I know my game would not have been up to par at Nationals. The Pitt Rec center in the student Union used to have 13 8’ tables (12 GC’s and...

Got my table in the house today.

If you already have a machinist's level, I would say to give it a shot yourself. In the "Talk to a Mechanic" forum, there's a sticky post which is RKC's guide to leveling 3 piece slate tables. About 7-8 years ago I set up a 9 foot 3 piece slate table myself (My Avatar pic), and his guide...

Show us your HOME ROOMS !!

Fair warning, this will be a long post: Well here we go, my second entry into this thread. First was 7-8 years ago when I put a classic 1960's AMF Grand Prix 9' in my then basement. Have long since sold the house (divorce will do that :)...) and have been living in an apartment for some time...

    Raybestos Master Fast Cushions

Trent, yes, I'm getting 4.5 table lengths on a firm hit without the cue ball hopping off the first rail. If I hit it harder and get a little cue ball hop off the first cushion I can get 5 lengths. That's on Simonis 860 that I installed. Edited my first post when I took a second look at the...

    Raybestos Master Fast Cushions

That picture JoeyinCali posted is actually one of my cushions, on my 1960's AMF Grand Prix. They play fantastic, do not change them. Old manhattan Raybestos cushions are extremely high quality rubber, you can't go wrong with them.

Are College Billiard Teams Still Popular?

Scott, you are correct about Pitt. The University of Pittsburgh Billiard club no longer exists. I was the VP and then President of the club back in 2003-2004. The student Union Rec Center had 13 8' gold crowns, a 10' snooker table and a vintage 10' Brunswick 3 Cushion table. We held $3 entry...

    League suggestions NJ

What town in NJ are you in? There's an APA of Middlesex and Union County. Pretty much all of the host locations are bars/taverns with one 7 foot coin op table. Also, I believe there's a TAP league in Middlesex County. I think Sandcastle Billiards in Edison is a host location. Sandcastle is...
