Looking for a pool league in Cambridge, Mass.

I've been out of the game for a while and want a fun way to get back into it... I played in the APA a couple of times and enjoyed it. Anyone know of any pool leagues in the Cambridge, Mass. area?

    Any billiards matches on iTunes?

Is anybody offering (or planning to offer) 8-ball, 9-ball, straight pool, or any other kinds of billiards matches on iTunes? It seems like a really easy way to buy and watch matches... Honestly, I'm surprised Accu-Stats doesn't offer it yet, but they didn't even respond to my email on the topic.

    Strange question: any one-eyed players?

I'm not one-eyed, but I am mostly blind in one eye. My doctors tell me I don't have conventional depth perception (I can't watch 3D movies, for example). Anybody here in the same boat, or know of someone who is? I'd be interested to hear how others visualize the balls, aim their shots, etc...

    Where to play in LA?

Hey, that rhymes! ;) I just moved down to Los Angeles, and I'm looking for somewhere to play. Preferably, I'd like to play in a league of some sort. Straight pool, 8-ball, 9-ball, it really doesn't matter. The catch: I'm just south of Hollywood (Mid-City West/Miracle Mile area), and I don't...

    lucasi, pros-cons

I have a Lucasi with a Z shaft and love it. The best deal I could find for such a nice looking cue. Some say the inlays may not be real, but I don't plan on smashing my cue open any time soon, so who cares? I also haven't had any of the linen wrap problems that others have mentioned. :)

    New Predator Cues

I play with a Z shaft and love it, but I've always thought that Predator cues are either a) butt ugly, b) ridiculously overpriced for very simple inlays, or c) both. That's why I got a cue that I like the looks of and just stuck a Z shaft on it. Then again, not everybody is as shallow as me. ;)

    Fun drills

Lately I've gotten tired of the sort of position drills where you have just a single shot and have to get the cueball to a specific location, such as this one: START( %AD2H9%PI9N5%Up8I1%VD3J2%Wl9D1%XD2J1%Yq0O1%ZD6J5%[r0U4%\D4J4 %]l6Z8%^D8J8 )END Instead I've been enjoying drills like this one...

    New 14.1 player advice?

Isn't that true of ANY game? :p

    New 14.1 player advice?

Suppose you were responsible for teaching somebody how to play 14.1. What words of advice would you give them? -CF

the con that is the BCN

Absolutely. I posted once before about my negative experience with them. They've done nothing that I'm aware of to get past that initial impression.

    Fighting Your Eyes - Alignment.

Lately I've been worrying less about what I see when I'm down in my stance and more about lining up my "pendulum" as I approach the shot (hope that makes sense). It's done wonders for my accuracy. When I'm down on the shot, it will look wrong, but I know that my arm is lined up in the right...

    Is It Always This Extreme?

Some people will tell you that your expectations of yourself are too low and that you need to improve your mental game by not being so "down" on yourself. Having read Pleasures of Small Motions, I tend to think the opposite: your expectations are too high for yourself. Clearly you don't have...

Why does everybody always knock the APA?

I think that's really it. Many serious players don't like to hang out with poor players who don't demonstrate a motivation to improve. Many APA members are mediocre and only play that one time a week. It just depends on your tolerance for hanging around with that kind of player.

A Question for all APA members

In my area, a 4 is just a step above a banger. He can make shots more regularly, but doesn't have much concept of pattern play. He is not a favorite to run out with ball in hand and 3 balls left. A 5 has some knowledge, but lacks the ability to execute consistently. A 6 is capable of a break...
