I don't know if anybody has said this yet, but to me the answer is simple! You should not be rewarded for illegally pocketing a ball. By having the ability to return the shot to the player that just illegally pocketed the ball, you eliminate this!

Do you really think a player can feel a difference between 1" slate and 2" slate? And if that's true, and this is to be the best table Diamond can build. Should they not be using a 2" slate?
