something you probably did not know about steve. i first met steve, about 1962-1963 of all places in davenport,iowa on a basketball court st. alphonsus grade school. i think he was going to collage at st. ambrose. nothing organized just a pick up game, when i say just a pickup game two future all staters and some of the better players around town. steve had outside shooting ability but was a bit slow, he could pass well and made good decisions had good court vision and could set up picks and take one for the team. steve, had heart, whenever he went inside he would nearly have his head handed to him, but that never stoped him from trying again. the game was a slug fest, as they always were. we all knew steve, was not a player, but sometimes he could bring it. i knew nothing about pool then, only that he was a good player, well i guess he was. when the miller-lite comercial came out, i wasthinking how could we know we were in the presence of greatness.
