All the devices work some better than others, it's called know what the hell you are doing with any of them and you will be fine. No tool is going to let you not pay attention and do it all for you . It takes practice, Make what tool(s) you have work for you

You need a .308 reamer and it will fit. A tap with a .308 lead would have to be special made and expensive. The .308 is the minor diameter of the modified pin most are just using a reamer

Doesn't matter what you use to trim your tip , you need to pay attention and have an idea of what you are doing. You can nick a ferrule on the lathe.

Amazing what you find on these older cues. I did work on a Veryl Horn cue, a few years back, it had a steel very small maybe 10- 24 tenon threaded into a solid piece of ivory .

What pin is in it ? When I balance and weigh my cues i play around with the weight bolt and joint pin weight to get a balance. I'm thinking Bert Shrager use to put a weight below the joint pin and one in back too to balance things out. Some weight the back of the shaft
