I've heard a plethora of different people called a 'nit' and can't find a common denominator for what a nit actually is.

I live 6 minutes from a decent pool hall with sub part equipment and no action. I live 30 minutes from a very good pool hall with lots of action. I drive the 30 minutes most days.
