I've had that same damage occur following a miscue when breaking. I swing too hard for sure.

As a neophyte cue maker myself, i produce shafts in maple, ash, purple heart, Keilwood, or carbon depending on customer request. I will play with any of them. Keep in mind my game is at a level where they all play similar enough. A better player will have preferences for sure.

Elmers glue all. Coat both pieces and allow to dry. Apply veneer using an iron. It will remelt the elmers, but it hardens back as soon as heat is removed , so it sticks it down quick and permanent.
