    I finally played Ultimate Pool

Never. All I’ve played at this point is an introductory tournament and the weekly league. It’s actually a group of reasonable people so things tend to go ok. I do prefer BCA/ CSI rules though. I could see something being called by some people in a certain situation though. And there are the...

    I finally played Ultimate Pool

I’m still not sure and there is a limit to how much I am going to research it. But… I think it is their 8 ball rule 6f(9). There is a corresponding rule for 10 ball in another section- 13(9). That rule has as a loss of rack foul “ Deliberately moving a ball(s) other than playing as part of a...

    I finally played Ultimate Pool

Yeah, that was a situation I don’t remember being covered in the rules presentations we saw before playing and I haven’t gone and looked in the rule book after. The part about not touching moving balls was well covered but I don’t remember the ball return issue. But maybe it was. And in the end...

    I finally played Ultimate Pool

I think it may make sense in the 30 minute match system. But I don’t think I like the rule. Last night was the first time I saw someone lose a rack for that. I think he just forgot BCA vs UPL. And the match was two pretty even lower ranked players so the time clock wasn’t an issue when it...

    Chicago pool happenings

Last fall I had an early return flight after a trip to WI so booked a hotel convenient to ORD and north side/ north suburbs the night before. Chris’s was reasonably close and I checked it out. But where do you park. I couldn’t figure out if there was a lot you could use and some signs seemed to...

Gorst dishes on US Open, lopsided prize funds, long race with Filler

That’s right in one sense. But not the way it works in any other sport. In an amateur event I kind of get it but even then I have only seen a difference in entry fees not a requirement that players stay at the hotel. But maybe there are others that require it. Needless to say the economic model...

Bigger dimension is outside dimension. Playing area is cushion nose to nose. So 93” table is 40x80 play area. 9’ table is 50x100.

They do make that one. The 93” valley is 40x80. Most I have seen in the wild are the 40x80 one.

One small quibble. Most valleys have the same play area as Diamond. Most typical valley is 40”x80” playing field with a 93” overall length. Diamond is same 40x80. Valley does make a smaller one though. Rails and pockets/shelf different of course.

Solutions for small-scale local one pocket tournaments

We were going to have that format recently but it didn’t get going and we didn’t play. Not enough players whereas other formats have drawn more. This is a smaller area but one pocket exists here now and apparently it wasn’t as big say 5 years ago. Anyway, I think the entry was too high for the...

    Buddy Hall talks "Deflection"

Yes and no. I get fitted etc…. I think the launch monitors and optimizing spin and launch has helped the pros a lot. And I remember the old days where guys would tweak their lifts and lies. I don’t think it matters as much for many players as they think. So yeah get fit…

    Buddy Hall talks "Deflection"

I’m coming around more and more to your position, even though I think good equipment is better and newer is often better. That said, I had an internet conversation with a very good golfer some time ago. Good D1 player, got through Q School but couldn’t keep a card, US Open qualifier. So a real...
