Have a gentleman who has an older cue that has the original courtland linen. He wants it repaired, refinished and wants the old wrap replaced. I havent a clue as to where to get the stuff or if it even still exists. Seems like it a tad bit thicker than linen we have today. The wrap groove seems...
Thanks Guys for all your help. Seems like there is a few different ways to determine the center of a work piece. My machine has a fairly long point on the forearm end of the cue. About 1 1/2 inches long x .4 diameter. If Im understanding this right. I can use a 1/8 inch dowel pin in my collet...
Quick question, Anyone have a method to quickly center your cnc cutter over the cue. Seems like I generally eyeball it. I cut a piece of wood of fit between the table and the outside of the cnc frame that seems like it puts if back about the same position every time but im still not sure Im dead...
There are cue builders and cue assemblers. The guys who buy other cue makers parts and assemble cues and put their name on it is common. I have about 125K in my shop in equipment and thats not counting wood and pins, tips, ferrules and the like. You can easily spend a couple grand on phenolic...
I think when it comes to the joint area and the butt cap area Bocote in itself us not durable enough. Ive seen a few cues that had tulipwood, coco, and bocote joints and most were cracked. As far a stabilizing goes it may strengthen the wood a bit but its nothing like phenolic. Ive never sleeved...
Hi guys, I havent worked with abalone and was wondering how it mills and most of the stuff Ive seen is very thin. So that tells me that the pockets must be pretty shallow. Is there any synthetic substitute that looks and works well? Also does it sand and polish well. Thanks for any help...
A friend of mine needs a 13 and 14mm tip centering tool. He has a hightower lathe so Im sure the tail stock is 3/8 or maybe 1/2 inch Im not sure. He used to have a porper tool and tried calling muellers and they said that thy purchased porper but wouldnt have stock until the new year. Any help...
hate to sound negative but with all the different IDs and ODs, how the heck do you install these pins. The barrel is what has me confused. The look nice and ID like to give them a try but the fitting is critical. Thanks for any help. Mark
I built both my shaft and butt machine. They work Great. I got the general idea from Chris Hightowers Book. A truly worthwhile investment. I have saved so much time and learned so much from that book I just cant thank him enough. Anyway the shaft saw machines I have were easy enough to build...
Well the cue is already assembled. The rings butt up against the curly maple. Only 2 of them show the bleeding. I guess its the fine powder of the kingwood that gets in the pores of the maple. Hence when I sand it I will have to blow the sh....t out of it in the process to keep it clean. I think...
Ive assembled a cue with curly maple and 3 part segmented handle area with intermittent 1/8 inch kingwood rings and maple in between. Anyway, even when Im making my initial passes to taper it to size Im getting some bleeding from the Kingwood. Ive worked with cocobolo alot and I kinda used to...
Hey guys, Im thinking about coring just about everything in the future. Im looking for a gun drill that has a smaller shank. Most of what Im looking at has 3/4 inch or larger. I want a 3/4 finished hole but my chucks wont handle anything over 1/2 inch. Do I need to invest in a larger chuck...
