Using "Center Ball" - is it good advice or a hidden disadvantage?

A good example is a straight in shot, say a couple feet apart, and there’s another ball’s edge just a millimeter or two in the way 6 inches or so in front of the cue ball. With a maple shaft you can shoot straight at the object ball 1/2 tip off center to deflect by the ball and depending on how...

Has anyone raised their pool table because of back pain?

I have the opposite problem, and listening to your situation I wonder if a change in how high you stand over the cue might be a better solution. I have an antique Brunswick Balke Collender table. It stands 33” and 34.5” respectively to your numbers. I’ve recently wondered if its height (too...

Compared to impossible, difficult feels easy.

Awesome post, hard to believe it hasn’t gotten more conversation. Many (like myself) have spent hour after hour working to achieve perfect fundamentals. We switch shafts and tips and chalk every time something new promises to make us better. We strive to find exactly what our practice session...

    Instructor or pro player?

A beginner should seek out a compatible instructor. Once a player is able to identify his or her weaknesses and ask relevant questions about patterns, ball pocketing, and controlling the cue ball then the pro will have the best information.

    Opinions on two practice sessions

    Thanks for the response Cron.

    Opinions on two practice sessions

I wasn’t speaking of myself in the scenario, just looking for opinions from veteran players like yourself. Then I will possibly adjust accordingly if I feel the consensus is different than how I practice, which would then yes be benefiting me. I probably should have said 100 sessions, 50 good...

    Opinions on two practice sessions

Thanks for the answer Brian. I have a couple hours available to practice late each night and I always feel if I quit a session I’m losing out. I might have to rethink, or at least switch it up more like you said.

Thanks Tin Man, and another thanks to you and MnPoolBootCamp for the help today.

    Opinions on two practice sessions

Thanks sjm for the input. I agree both are beneficial, and I might even lean to the low performance being more beneficial if the player knows how to constructively use it as a lesson for future use.

    Opinions on two practice sessions

Let’s say a player has two practice sessions of equal length during which he or she practices the same drills. Also let’s assume the player has the same focus, attitude and intensity during both sessions. During one session the player performs far below his or her average ability, and the other...

The path to pool progress leads beyond the four rails

I would like to add since you and I spent time on this discussion. On one hand, I disagree with your philosophy as it applies in my own situation, which might be somewhat unique. What does that mean? It means that after I went underground to reinvent my pool game a couple years ago, 99.99% of...

Five Stars for Tin Man's MNPoolBootCamp

You’re Welcome. Tin Man definitely has passion—after running the cue ball three rails and sticking it on a dime he giggles like it was the first time he’s ever done it. Fun to watch!

It was a vacation for me. Even after the traveling I was energized.

Five Stars for Tin Man's MNPoolBootCamp

Last week I spent three days with Demetrius at his boot camp. I am a C+/B- type player in the 530 Fargo range who has been playing pool on and off for 30+ years. I have been working hard on my game, but my improvement has been slow and I wanted to find a faster track. I recommend anyone at an...
