I started out with a cnc 6040 and then extended it to what would be like a 100 40. Basically I made the bed length 36 “ . Pretty simple to do.just have to order longer rails and lead screw.

Yes knowing as long as you are dialed in it is rinse and repeat with exact specs. I have now created files for different cuts like turndowns or handles or shaft tenon joint rings all kinds of stuff. I put the material in pull my file up and press go.

Just remember as Shane has stated you could buy Mid America “manual” lathe and the cnc taper machine and you would be at a cost of $4500 + and still not be able to preform all the functions of what Shane’s setup is. This weekend I turned down 22 squares of wood . Rinse and repeat. I load the...
Shane has put a lot of time in designing testing and validation with this build. The improvements of the accuracy and the ability to have the extended travel on the axis was a huge addition to my cnc taig style lathe. He continues to improve his design and has created his own cnc lathe design...
I can confirm this setup works really nice . I have had it for about a year along with another friend . With this lathe setup you can do all cue work as well as a full cue build. He has designed some really nice updates with this build .

I use aspire and it is just an up grade of cut 2d . I was the same way with bobCad . Just could not figure it out. I started with cut 2d and it is great. Very simple and easy to use. I use it for all my inlays and ring work with a cnc 3040 router. Cut2d is worth it. You can use the demo for free...

I got the 794 I had no reason other than it was cheap and I thought I would try it. But it works great . I ran clear hose to a flexible nozzle attached to my z axis . With the size of tube being small it has plenty of pressure to clear debris.

It is an alternative but a 3K alternative. When your on a budget and use it as a hobby sometime you have to look for cheaper alternatives What I have works good and it was a couple hundred dollars in parts to add on to my existing lathe. defiantly not comparable to what Todd offers in quality...
Dale, glad it helped. If you do decide to do it and have any questions let me know . I just finished converting mine to full cnc. I could let you know the do’s and dont’s of what I learned building it. I was out of my league when I started it but figured it out.
