Got my first one last October; just ordered 2 more last week. I went with a uncored design that’s just wood sans insert.

Who did you finally order your shafts from that would meet your weight requirements?
Allow me to first get the shafts before inserting my foot in mouth like I did with another cue maker earlier this year.
They were very confident they could build what I wanted but the proof is always in the pudding. And much to
my dismay, last week the first of the shafts I ordered in early April was completed but the shaft was almost a 1/2
oz. lighter than I ordered. So it was back to square one and I started contacting cue makers all over again.

As it turns out, I did contact someone that immediately out of hand dismissed the premise building a heavy Kielwood shaft requires weight to be added to the shaft. There is no mystery to building what I wanted made & he said he’s already done it.

And this also wasn’t going to require waiting months for my shafts either. So I placed my order and the shafts will be finished shortly. My first shaft is almost finished and the other will be shortly finished as well. This seems as fast as ordering a shaft from a pool website so I am thrilled with the turnaround time.

I borrowed a KW shaft from a friend that was made by this cue maker yesterday.it weighs 4.01 ozs and 12.6mm. It fits seamlessly on my 3/8x10 cues and played even better than my Barhart KW shaft weighing 3.81 ozs. I’ll take photos of
the shaft later today fitted on my cues. The shaft is handsome, smooth as satin, and is the 4 oz. weight that I’m hoping
my shafts will be. The cue maker has told me not to be concerned and I trust him after playing with this borrowed shaft.

There isn’t any insert or weight that added to this shaft which I submitted long ago should not be necessary. The owner
of this shaft, my friend, said it’s deflection is every bit equal to his CF Mezz shaft. All I know is I played with the shaft
yesterday and it wowed me a lot, even faster than my Barnhart KW shaft did after I initially received it. So my optimism
at this moment is sky high. You don’t have to agree with my reasoning for wanting a heavier version KW but it looks like
some of the advice I received was unreliable. The cue maker I chose is building me what others told me they couldn’t do.

Just curious just how good this cat plays. I've known a BUNCH of world class players over the last 40yrs and MAYBE one was anywhere near this anal about a shaft. Its really easy to waaaaay overthink this stuff. Lil side-bar: when Buddy was living here in Tulsa he sold cues to help with bills. He had a big roller case with about 15-20 cues in it. One day at Magoo's i watched him play cheap sets and he was changing cues every few games to try them out/sell them. He played EXACTLY the same with each cue, zero worries as to adapting. He told me that if the tip was shaped ok he could run out with anything. Words to live by.

Probably 'half bake' it for color. Then go from there.

Like food, you don't want to bake it too long because it becomes dry.

They'll probably keep the weight on that way.

Did you send your cue in for fit and finish? Or just sent the dimensions of your joint collar's diameter?

Have you even seen Earl Cue ?

I provided the collar diameter of my cue butt.

For over a decade, probably a lot longer, I have posted on this website about the weight ratio of cue shafts and cue butts. I challenged others to refute what I wrote about all of the greatest names in cue making used this approach with the cues they built. Just go through the Blue Books of Cues or browse for sale listings. This isn’t just a coincidence and so far, no one has refuted what I’m saying with anything other than their own cynicism but sans any facts to disprove this.

I am merely sticking to this formula, even with Kielwood shafts. So if the best names in cue making adhered to this
cue building approach, IMO, it should be followed even when matching a lower deflection Kielwood shaft to a cue butt.

It’s interesting how there is such divided thought among cue makers and several said what I want cannot be made. Yet
here it is with more to follow. Buy what you like, believe what you will but some day after I’m gone this will be validated.

Here are photos of the KW shaft I borrowed from a friend until mine arrive. I am very pleased with this cue maker’s workmanship. The shaft looks and plays every bit as great as I hoped; this shaft is 12.6mm, 3/8x10, 4.01 ozs. I already
have a Barnhart roasted maple shaft (12.85mm, 3.81 ozs.) and the borrowed shaft actually exhibits less deflection than
my Barnhart version. The cue maker has sold hundreds of KW shafts so he isn’t new at it. The finish/appearance/feel
of his KW shaft is absolutely top notch based on what I’ve seen. You can’t judge the hit in a photo but it plays amazing.
It is the darker of the two KW shafts and fits 3 of my cues in the below photo.; the other KW shaft is made by Cory Barnhart and only comes in radial so it only fits my Scruggs cue. I also have a 3/8x11 KW being made for 2 other cues.

Who made it ? If you dont mind. I want something that heavy too

Here are photos of my friend’s flat faced KW shaft from the cue maker building my KW shafts. I expect my shaft could even turn out heavier. But 4.01 ozs (12.6mm) shaft that looks this nice would make me very happy. I’m going with a 5/8” ferrule. IMO, this shaft looks as good as any I’ve seen and after having played for a few hours today, it didn’t disappoint. The darker of the two shafts is from the cue maker building my shafts and I think he does a great job.

Glad it worked out for you.

Thanks but actually I’m still waiting for my shafts. This one is a loaner but it does fulfill all my requirements. In fact so much so, I changed one of my shafts from 12.75mm to 12.6mm which is this shaft’s size. I am not a fan of 12.4-.5 shafts but 12.6mm is one I’ve never tried before and it’s a shaft size that has a great sight picture and feel (sans glove). I expect he’ll ship both shafts together so I expect to have the shafts pretty soon. I also happen to prefer the darker color of this shaft.
