bumpers protect the end of the cue .... i wouldnt consider a cue without some sort of bumperWhat are some cons about having a bumperless butt ? I’m thinking of having a full splice brent summers blank made with a bumperless hoppe style butt also extension ready . I love the look is it a bad idea ? Thanks
If you know the purpose of the bumper on a cue then by applying simple logic, you should be able to figure the only down side to a bumper less cue.What are some cons about having a bumperless butt ? Drill the weight/assembly bolt maybe?I'm a big fan of Bumperless....take care of it and you're good. You mention bumperless and an extension... how does that work?
Sometimes I have a second cue with an extension I’ll use when needed. It’s ready to go.Drill the weight/assembly bolt maybe?
Gee thanksIf you know the purpose of the bumper on a cue then by applying simple logic, you should be able to figure the only down side to a bumper less cue.
Beautiful piece of woodMy current cue is not traditional "bumperless" but it does lack a rubber bumper. And it has an extension. Bacote cue with a super light walnut extension.

I tend to rest it on my foot, instead of the floor if the floor is not soft.
It's my second iteration of this cue, the last one (had a bumper) got seen by someone that insisted they acquire it from me.Beautiful piece of wood![]()
Sorry I was grumpy this morning. But what I said is true. Bumper-less looks cool but you'll bang the shit out of the but cap. Maybe even crack or chip it. Not rocket science to figure out if you play a lot of pool and have a habit of slamming your cue into the floor like I do, you might not want to go bumper-less. If you are really careful with you cue or if it's going in a display case princess go for it.Gee thanks
This makes sense, I had a friend trying out a light weight cue I made and we thought it sounded a little odd (hollow like). I realized I grabbed it before putting on the bumper. The bumper changed the sound to wear we thought it was more normal sounding.Two things;
1st, antique cues didn't come with a bumper. The bumper was added as noise suppression, as opposed to protection.
Personally I love the feedback and look og bumperless hoppe cues, but I'm vary about recommending them to customers as they are easily abused.
I once knew a player with anger issues. His butt even with a bumper was cracked from him pounding it on the floor.
