In case anyone is interested in another option for a dial indicator mount, I have redid the one I first showed on here. The old mount was in the way at times and I had to take it off to clear at times. Also was too tight to the wheel and gib lock down.
I have moved it down about an inch, eliminated the quick release knob on the back plate, and made a new back plate where it goes down instead of up in the way.
Was just a simple piece of aluminum 1x1 angle that I cut and fashioned, then a piece of 1" long 1/4" inside dia tube to help space out the dial indicator.

Very nice looking update. love to see how others are tackling the same issues.

I had the same issue with the indicator getting in the way of the piece being turned and lowered it like you did. I kept it closer to the tool post so I could get tighter up to the tailstock when needed. It is more in the way of the lock down, but I rarely change it, so I don't really mind. The wheel didn't bother me, and now with the bigger wheel it is even more out of the way.

The problem I had with the back plate was when boring smaller holes the plate no longer touched the indicator needle. I added a second piece that easily swivels into place.

Also like how you buffed it, looks cooler.
