About Mike Pancerney

He was born in Windsor, Ontario, and started playing pool around age 15. In his early twenties, he worked at the Dufferin Game Room, handling tip replacements and repairs. Visits to the company’s Toronto facility sparked his fascination with cue construction.
After leaving Dufferin, he built a reputation for quality repairs, leading local players to seek him out directly. He purchased a Porper Model B lathe, expanding his services to include re-wraps and replacement shafts.
In 1998, he married and moved to Michigan, bringing his lathe along. The thriving local pool scene, filled with tournaments and custom cues from masters like Joss West, Szamboti, Black Boar, Richard Black, and Joel Hercek, inspired him to create cues of comparable quality.
His shop grew over time with new equipment, including a pantograph for inlays—though the manual process was tedious. His day job in automotive production introduced him to AutoCAD, and a colleague’s suggestion led him to acquire a CNC milling machine. Within five months, he was designing and cutting complex inlays digitally; he still uses that original machine today, with ongoing upgrades.
He has met many legendary cue makers, all friendly and highly skilled. Cue making attracts intelligent, tasteful individuals and demands expertise in woods, glues, metals, finishes, plastics, and more—uniting diverse materials into a flawless-playing instrument requires patience, passion, and constant refinement.
For him, it has always been a labor of love, focused on precision craftsmanship and inlay artistry. In the coming years, he plans to realize long-held design ideas, blending 25 years of experience with bold new directions. He eagerly anticipates this next chapter.
