Welcome to Gestapo Billiards. Have a good time.

  • Keep your drinks away from the table; let’s all play on nice cloth
  • Same with food; eat that at a table or the bar
Huh?

Again, simply reading the original post and attempting to word it better.

An edit; nothing more.

Probably not.

Saw this thread (after 4 bourbons) and thought, “I could word that better.”

So, I did.

Not a sign for a pool hall I would operate. Simply a better-wording of the original sign.
Yes, it’s excellent, but at that length would have to be a poster. The problem with the $100 / stain rule is the stain is usually not discovered until long after the customer has left.

As for tears in the cloth, that’s pretty rare and hard to do in a well maintained pool room, as long as the tips on the house cues are well maintained. As far a bar table in a bar setting, obviously that can and will happen much more frequently.

LOL at the LOL.

Welcome to <Insert Name Here> Pool Room!

Please, come and play here and enjoy yourselves! We have wonderful equipment, good food and drink, and our waitstaff try and keep you happy because they’re working for tips!

We hope you come here because we pride ourselves in having excellent equipment and a comfortable environment, thereby enhancing everyone’s game.

To keep it that way, we kindly ask that you observe a few “House Rules”, basically common-sense actions that help keep this a great place to play!

House Rules
  • Keep your drinks away from the table; let’s all play on nice cloth
  • Same with food; eat that at a table or the bar
  • Actually, hand powder is the same as food or drink; don't use that and ask us about maintaining a smooth shaft if necessary
  • We also provide a break pad to use when breaking; that helps the cloth to last much longer; tell your waitperson if you need instruction
  • Please don't sit or lean on the tables; we'd like them to be level as long as possible
  • Help us take care of the slate; don't tap balls in place or dump balls on the table when you arrive
  • Chalk creates dust, unfortunately, so let's not chalk over the table or put it face down on the table
  • Jump and masse shots are a part of the game today; but please, practice them elsewhere
  • If you match up and are moving to another table, please let your waitperson know so we can accurately track your time
  • When you've finished your domination at the table, please gather your balls and return them to checkout
Unfortunately, there are those rare few who don't want to keep things nice for everyone else. We'll point out your error without consequence the first time we see it, but if you repeat, we'll likely ask you to leave.

Finally, there are consequences for intentional or accidental actions:
  • A spilled drink or a stain on the table caused by you will result in a $100 charge
  • Torn felt and/or a permanent stain will result in a $500 charge
Thank you for coming, and we really appreciate your business!
Good luck with that charge. I went to a room in Denver that has a sign charging $500 for spilled drinks on the table🤣. They must be making list of money because every table in there had drink stains.

Some time after seeing "the sign" I had an occasion to meet the owner. He was every bit as offensive as the sign.

I finally went back when I heard that the owner was gone. It seems that he had purchased the place from a business that has several rooms in the area, but he recently sold it back to them. No surprise that he was unable to make a go of it. Now the place is just as friendly as any other room in the area.

The worst sign I ever saw in a pool room.

"If you have nothing to do don't do it here"

Place was empty. A pool room is a hangout. If an owner doesn't recognize that they may be doomed.

I feel it should be on the room owner, or whoever is in charge to monitor their customers instead of putting up demeaning signs. I could see some of those rules posted I guess, but I think when you see bad behavior, let them know your expectations.
Funny jumping is not mentioned. We have a friend that regularly comes over to play, and I don't allow jumping on my table. I get teased about it whenever I put her in a situation where she wants to use her jump cue, I just smile.
Chalking over the table just isn't worth saying anything. I'll just vacuum the next day after company leaves.
Maybe you are blind, but jumping is definitely mentioned.

rules to post for room owners to read :

try letting customers have fun

chalk however you want. it vacuums up. you should vacuum regularly to keep your tables clean

people sometimes hit the table unconsciously with their stick let it be it doesn't hurt the table.

people eat in pool rooms just like they do in a bar. its up to you to keep your room clean.

get a good dehumidifier then people don't need hand powder.

people lean on pool tables it doesn't make them move.

please post a sign you changed and are nice so at least some of your customers will hopefully return.
