things can be real cheaply made in china as they do overruns for products on the original customers dime on the materials. and they have little labor to pay. so that many products cost them almost nothing to produce.

Also, it's impossible to buy bridge handles for less than about $10, or was when I looked for some. A little bend in a bridge handle is not a big problem.
