Comebacks by Savannah

A lot of hate on here for Savannah but as someone who has watched her progress over the years I always believed she would be world champ someday.

Just a few years back she was a 500 Fargo here in Vegas. She has made a big jump in her game in a relatively short time and she has youth on her side.

Branding has to be part of what you do if you want to make a serious career in the game. Tournament winnings isn’t enough.. at least not yet.

I agree but she's just a kid and she's not at the point of her career for that.
With all due respect, she needs to work on her game and win a major event before selling products.
People like what world champions sells not what those who came 3rd. sell... but I get it, she's a wonderkid and they want to capitalize on it while they can, the trip could be over soon.
Some do it for the achievements and titles, some for the quick buck. The first approach gets you both and it last longer, like Jasmin Ouschan, the second approach usually leads to fast crash and burn.

She is very successful at marketing and selling products and your advice is to not do that. Terrible take as thousands of people are already buying from her even though she only finished 3rd in the World 8 Ball.

Good thing you are not her parents or her career would already be doomed.

Sponsorships are typically what allow top players to devote so much time to playing and improving/maintaining their game. Players might get sponsored because they play well and go deep in big tournaments, but if those players can't sell the products their sponsors are trying to sell, it becomes pointless for the sponsor to keep signing checks. Improving her personal brand benefits her and her sponsors.

And being a fan favorite is a selling point itself. Also, finishing 3rd at age 16 is an incredible feat, she made it further than several players who are considered among the best in women's pool.

I was never a tournament player, preferring action. Point is it may be different playing competitively in tournaments, I don’t have a personal reference point for it, but I found that once I was at a certain level and in action all the time, there was no real practicing anymore. For me, nothing hones your game like competing. It may be different for tournament players, again I have no reference point for that

The thing about what you say though is that being an action and gambling is not sudden death. I played a zillion times and I end up starting off kind of slow don't seem to have it and then eventually grind the guy to pieces. In tournaments its not like that. You got to be 100% from the first time you come to the table. No time to get into the groove.

In tournament play that often is the problem even with champions. I've have beaten top players many times in tournaments cuz I just happened to get out of the box quicker on them in that match. Would I have ever gambled with them? Im not nuts. For the same reason, gambling it makes no difference how the session starts I can tell you how it would end against a better player.

I was at a tournament with Big Bob one time, and he was a terrible tournament player. He's playing this local guy and Bob loses raised to 11. The guys all excited, him and his friends high-five and going on and on. I guess it just got on Bob's nerves because he walked over to the guy and says "Would you like to play some for real now"?
Of course the guy can't say yes and it was probably a little rude of Bob to have done that but I guess it just got on his nerves and he was a little embarrassed.
