Hello, ball bangers and Fargo 500+!

What products do you guys use to clean your pool cues, especially wood shafts and cue butts?

Carbon fiber shafts are easy. A alcohol wet wipe, or a cleaning spray, and you’re pretty much done. But what about wood shafts?

I’ve seen Gorst and Pagulayan cleaning solutions, but I’m not sure how safe those products are for wood shafts and cue butts.

A few questions:
  • Wood shafts: What products do you use to remove dirt, grime, and discoloration without damaging the wood or finish?
  • Cue butts: What’s safe to use on the finish, inlays, and other materials?
  • Leather wraps: How do you clean both genuine leather and synthetic leather wraps without drying them out or damaging them?
  • Products: Are there any specific cleaners you recommend or products I should absolutely avoid?
Thanks much!

ive never seen a need to clean my cues. i guess if they got sticky or something a damp rag wipe might be in order.

ive never cleaned a hammer, or a broom handle, a fishing rod, baseball bat, only golf club face if is stuff on it.

Either you never play anymore or your palms never sweat
Show us your cue!

On the butt and wrap I just use a dry or damp microfiber rag.
On the shaft(wood) I use dry or damp microfiber rag.
Maybe once per year I'll use a damp magic eraser very lightly, then dry microfiber followed by light Renaissance wax and buff with dry microfiber rag.
Not sure if this is recommended but it has served me well.

With several hundreds of thousands invested in tools I clean them whenever they are not clean. I take care of my cues too.

i would clean something it it helps functional ability of course. or if it would get me dirty touching it. but rarely for looks.
i never wash my cars or trucks unless covered in mud. do wash windshield and front from bugs with squeeze at the gas station sometimes..
thats me.

For the butt, any type of wipes or towel will do.
Once in a blue moon, I’ll use a wet wipe but not on a linen/leather grip.

For wooden shafts, I still have a stock of products from 20 years ago that work fine

The great thing about CF as you don’t need any of it, just alcohol wipes and a dry towel

I used to clean my wood shaft more often, before switching to premium chalk. I still probably clean it more often and more aggressively than most. Damp magic eraser is great. Paper towel dry, then the finest grit burnishing paper (Nick's Edge or similar). Then I burnish VERY vigorously with a Q-Wiz pad (leather) several times to seal the pores and get a glass-smooth finish.
My 40 year-old Meucci shaft is still as nice as when I first got it.

Good products. Haven't been able to find them, particularly the Q-Glide. Still have some Q-Clean, but it's more abrasive than the magic eraser, imo.
