Big Bill Brown , what a man , covered head to tails in bruises , order me a pint at the Bar son and I will tell you a story . What happened Bill ? I was so drunk last night I fell down the stairs he said and when I got home I was so drunk I fell going up the stairs and when I woke up I went first thing in the morning to the off sales their and back I fell . I used to love Big Bill's stories and one day he was gone from the pub , he'd sold his house for a cash in hand deal £26,000 I heard he got a guy from the Doublet Pool Team bought it it was worth maybe 4 times as much . Big Bill sobered up and I met him , she was getting **** all son so I sold up and split the money with my sons lol !

Right now I'm really tired but I feel the need to tell you about some of the punters I met there one such man was Big Bill Brown , he was a laid off worker , on the sick as was his wife and they had a Pitbull dog , can't remember it's name but they could sit from opening time 11am until closing time Midnight and beyond if it was a lock in / Big Bill pulled me aside and said the way you swallow the lager reminds me of me back in the day so watch it son , I got hooked early on Cider and it ruined me , pretty soon Big Bill and his wife split up after a DWP Welfare rule came in that only allowed one person per household to be able to apply for Sickness Benefits , they soon split , don't know who got the Pitbull dog .

Genuine , could tell you more , Big Tam's not long gone to rest , lucky if I met him a dozen times since that last season 1994/95 and it wasn't mean't to end that way but it just so happens it did .
    Big Tam .
it has taken the passing of Big Tam for me to open up . type away Chud , nobody will believe you anyway but it's true stories , believe what you will .

It's so sad on many levels thinking back , the elders smashing a fence post so that you could sneak into the field to watch football matches or you could go the long way and walk through a fields to sit on the hill to watch football matches so maybe 43/42 years ago and now those same fields have houses built on them . It really was better in those days !
Cues .When your cue gets stolen it is an absolute heartbreaker and I knew it just had to be a player from The Peel who stole it so I cursed it to whoever stole my cue may you never ever win a game of Pool with my magic wand ever ever again .
The Glenhead Social Club Pool Team 1984/85-1994-95 .
I've typed some but there is more to type and I want to type about the players but here's a story .
Steve W just lost a pint a game match so it's double or quits plus a £5 'er , I had my fun for the night and I was just about to leave when Steve W grabbed me and said hey , where're yo going , home I said , stay , playing for a pint and a £5 er , I've no money Steve , neither have I so I set them up you finish it . I'm sure I typed this the other night but still fresh in the memory bank . Steve W had the reputation as a bar room brawler so when I cleared up I was just glad to leave , few more stories like that but I wasn't on for playing Pool for money .
    Captain my captain .
Eddie S gone , team picked itself , Big Al took over as Team Captain , picked his mates first , League rules were garbage anyway and worked against the players , there may have been one or two temp Captains in between but Big Tam stepped in and all of a sudden the team were playing brilliant again at least until i burnt out and it meant nothing any more .

Glenhead Social Club 1984/85 to 1994/95 Team Captains .
Eddie S - Big Al -Big Tam .
There may have been one or two more but it's those three that matter for this conversation .
Eddie S the original team Captain who without him I very much doubt that there would've been a Glenhead Social Club Pool Team lasted who knows maybe 4/5/6 years or so until one night away at The Peel Glen in Drumchapel and I got back from the Bar with a pint of lager and it's well that's the last we've seen of him , who I asked , Eddie S they said so I went to meet him , gave him a cuddle and asked what you used to say , your playing chess on the Pool table , white's the Queen Black's the king , what were you on about . Your playing it , you just can't see it , leave you a song , Neil Young - World On a String . I gave him a hug and that was it , never seen him since .
    Cues.
Glenhead Social Club V The Peel Glen .
We'd just sent them packing early night etc and I left my cue at the Cigarette Machine at the swing doors and ordered a pint at the Bar then made room for the pint in the toilets and returned as The Peel Glen were leaving and my cue is just gone so I asked team mates did you see where my cues gone ? No they said and I ran out to aske The Peel Glen team have any of you's seen / got my cue but they jumped into their cars . I never seen that cue ever again , always looked for it when we played them . It was like my magic wand had been stolen and if asked it could place the cue ball at my command to a pin point but it was stolen . Bought a new cue but it was no good , team mate Hugh gave me a cue , try this as I was at the point of packing it all in .
    1984/85-1994.1995 .
That was my playing days/nights and thinking back I'm pretty sure I was the only to have stuck through the thick and thin and when it was brilliant it was truely brilliant but when it was bad , it couldn't get any worse .For example in the early days we were so good we could turn up with 7 players and win the singles 7-0 and head home early but when it was bad same deal trounced and sent home early doors lol !
    Players .
As a player in the early days I was good but I just couldn't grasp the League rules so maybe 3rd or 4th best in the team at the end of the season , it was just a night out for me , escapism from the nightmare of married life . I was there in the early days when the table fees went from 10p to 15p and the table was empty , whats up I asked , why's nobody on the table ? We're not paying 15p for a game lol , same when it went up to 20p then 30p then 40p then 50p , think it's £1 a game nowadays .
