Group 11
Monday June 8

It is to his credit that Mark Allen has enjoyed another consistent season, particularly in the early part of it, given his recent admission that he has split from his wife and is currently in the process of getting a divorce. He ought to have too many guns for the likes of Martin O'Donnell and Nigel Bond given he can so often operate below his best and grind out results in a way a younger Allen would not have been able to do. O'Donnell and Bond are both highly capable, though, and the latter will relish returning to terrestrial television screens after his memorable run at the UK Championship in December.

Group 6
Monday June 8

It's rarely dull when Ali Carter and Matt Selt are drawn against each other so Group 6 has the potential to be more interesting than many would expect. Carter reached the final of The Masters as recently as January to confirm what a wonderful, all-round player he remains and he could well have too much class for his trio of opponents in this group. However, I've always had a soft spot for Sam Craigie and this format has the potential to suit a young player who lacks for nothing in the talent department. Craigie reached the quarter-finals of the China Open last year so can clearly operate at the highest level and sooner rather than later he ought to make an impact on a more consistent basis than he has done so far.

Quite the final four. Bingham and then 3 players ranked in the mid 30’s. Illustrates the depth of Talent among players.

Nice to see Ryan regain his form after his disappointing last two seasons.

Bingham is an enigma. Like Murphy, good as anyone when at his best. Then, also like Murphy, a couple of off tournaments.

Well that was good fun while it lasted even though the short frame format might not be everybody's cup of tea but you've gotta start somewhere , haven't you ?

Good to see Snooker back on the TV screen again along with some Horse Racing , some great work from World Snooker and ITV Sports for making the event happen and I would say if you bet Luca Brecel go to Da' Bookie's and collect your winning's but they haven't got the go ahead to reopen until maybe next week , who know's ?

Well played Luca Brecel !:D:thumbup:

LINES IMPRESSES ON COMMENTARY DEBUT :

I was on Facebook and a matey asked who was in the commentary box but I didn't know at the time:cool::wink::grin-square::thumbup: until Peter was asked for his opinion and it wasn't Ebdon so it could only have been Peter Lines and I thought he did well , maybe his debut on ITV Sports .Peter Lines did enough to get another gig in the commentary box in the future .

Well played Luca Brecel !

I found the format confusing at first...then actually enjoyed it.

In a group of 128 be interesting to use this format for the first round of 128 players. Reduce it to 32 and then return to one on one elimination.

Lower ranked players who have a ‘day job’ could plan to be away for one day and not have to stick around if they win until the last 32 ( if they make it), It’s just a bit more incentive to keep in the pro game even in not making more that 2k or so. I always like it when a lower ranked player has a decent pay day. Winning 5k in a tournament is nice cash for a fellow driving a truck.

Back in the day when World Snooker started Champions League Snooker it was obviously a take on football's Champions League format and I never thought it would catch on but it did and yes it was enjoyable to watch with all the what happens if senario's .

Yeah it was good fun !:D:thumbup:
