Good morning junkies of all things billiards!
I picked up a 1920s Wendt 9' (Grand) table over the weekend and have had a very hard time finding anything out about the table. My local expert who has restored and sold several over the years is stumped on this as well. What veneer was used on this table? The brochure says Rosewood and my expert says Ash.
I have stripped the shellac and 100 years of dirt off of a few sections so you get to see the unfinished wood. I think the pictures bring out more of a red hue than seeing it in person.

Any help with anything on this table would be great!! #9.jpeg

Congrats on the table! Definitely not ash. It's hard to tell from the pics, but my best guess would be Circassian Walnut. That was a very popular veneer used during that time period, both Brunswick and Steinway were using it for the classic pool tables and grand pianos. It makes very impressive gun stocks as well.

Here is an example of a solid piece of Circassian Walnut for sale on ebay. Kinda close to Rosewood grain pattern, but side by side it's pretty easy to tell the difference.

Here is better pic of the veneer used on a classic grand piano. Looks identical to the veneer used on that Wendt pool table.
