Oddball Rules???? - 10-16-2007, 12:54 PM

We were attempting to play "oddball" the other nigts, and I know we were forgetting the rules. Can anyone help?

We racked all 15 balls... whoever made the 1 and 7 were married... honest attempt on all shots (except break)...and the most odd balls wins?.. or is it the highest sum of the oddballs???

Please help!

Also... how do you determine who gets paid and what? (We were only trying to play $0.25 just to have some fun)

Thank you all!!!

odd ball rules - 11-04-2007, 11:19 PM

Same rules as rotation, but every odd ball is worth one point and high score is worth one point for a total of nine points. We used to play this in Harrisburg Pa when I was a teenager. Down town at the Casino Billiards they used to play a dollar a point four handed on two, three tables every afternoon. Some times I even saw the big guys play for $5 a point. Once I saw them play $10 a point. They weren't allowed to play 9-ball as it was considered a gambling game.
There were guys such as Dick Minick, Stanley Stonic, Big Slim, Whitey Booth who could break and run out. The weird thing was Minick, Booth, Slim when playing straight pool run would run 4-5 balls and miss. In odd ball, If they broke and had a open table they were almost even money to run all 15 balls in rotation. I wonder what they would have done playing 9-ball.
I am talking about 50 years ago, as I am 65 years old.

We used to play one-ten partners or one-nine partners. If you were the best player you would want to play one-nine partners as you would have 2 points of the total 9 points. If you got all the points every one paid you.
I used to play 10 cents odd ball at my Dad's place on Derry Street. When I was 16 years old, I broke and ran out three racks in a row in a four handed game. That means I got 90 cents from the three other guys or 2.70 a game. That was a lot of money back then. (1958) My Dad was very angry as the game broke up and the guys wouldn't play again. They wouldn't bar me as they couldn't face up to losing to a 16 year old. They were all in their 30's. They had played every day for two years. They never played again. I guess my Dad was right. I just just wanted to play pool.

Old thread but so what. I miss Odd Ball. I’m trying to get 3 others to play. One does not understand the game. The other is too cheap. And the 3rd is the Gerber Baby. Damn senior citizens. I enjoyed a Sat afternoon for $.25 a way. Play 2 games and rotate partners. We played go for the hit.
