I've had good luck getting doing the holes with a plunge bit/router clamped to the rail. Flat bottom, exact size and no wobble.

How do you drive in the inserts? I use a drill press, threaded rod, nuts and wrenches to get them in straight, but it's slow and a pain in the rear.

What size of plunge bit you’re using? I got routers but didn’t think about it since DP was great for it.

To drive the inserts, I actually didn’t put much thought into it since it was 2-3 am last night. Haha. All I did was manually driving them in using a combo of a handheld drill to get pilot/started, then hand ratchet them down town. Now reading your post, I should have used the DP. Oh well, maybe ... next time😁
