Hello All,

I have been searching for a 10" Flat Top Grind saw blade to go on my shaft cutting machine. I found a source for a 40 tooth blade but have not found a source for a 60 tooth blade. What do you Prefer / use on your shaft machines 40T or 60T or ? And what is a good source?

Thanks

Go to your local hardware store, and purchase a 10" blade with 80 teeth. Take it to a guy who sharpens blade. Have him grind away the set on both sides, [ straight sides, but keep the thickness as wide as possible], then have him flat grind to top with as much [rake and relief], as possible. Just re-sharpen when needed. The new re-grind should run about $30.00 bucks. After that to re-sharpen, you might pay around 12 to 15 bucks, each time. I have 4 blades on my CNC saw/lathe. I re-sharpen maybe once a year.Got any questions, please call me @ 830-232-5991

Saw Blades

Yep, what Blud said. Having it ground that way makes a lot of difference. Not near as much sanding needed to get the finished product. My buddy works for a major construction company here in Omaha. They throw out high dollar 80 tooth carbide blades all day, they are still pretty sharp in my opinion. They don't bother with sharpening them. I get them from him and have them ground flat or sharpened or what ever. Saves me a bunch.

Could anyone post pictures of their shaft saw machines...I've been thinking about getting one and would like to know what others are available besides Joe Gold's and Mr. Bludworths. I may build my own for that matter as the cost for some of the pre-built ones is just a little too staggering.....
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike, please e-mail me at

poolcues@hctc.net

I'll send you some pictures of two differant types of machines. One is mechanical, but can be CNC'ed, the other one is two axes CNC.

My mechanical shaft/butt, saw/lathe sells for $6,500.00. You can't build one for this amount. I've been here a long time and many a guys have tired. Mine is tested and has no flaws. Bugs worked out 20 years ago.

If you purchased one simular to Joey Gold's, [BTW, joe and I are the best of friends], you could only turn cut one part at a time, [ meaning one shaft or one butt], and you would have about $6,500.00 tied up if you purchased a heavy saw such as the POWER-MATIC, brand, as he recomends and uses..

With any type of machine to hold close tolorances, you need mass, [weight]. The power matic, rigged out weights in at a little over 300lbs, my machine that turn cuts two at a time, weights in at 650lbs.

With my saw machine, you can be turn cutting a shaft on either side at the same time, or two butts at the same time, or, one shaft on one side and a butt on the other at the same time.

I also offer lease financing, if your interested?

Mine is nothing fancy and can only cut one shaft at a time but it works well. I only have around $750 in it, including the saw. It's made of aluminun. The two bolts there near the motor adjust the tapers. I'm sure it's primative compared to some of the high dollar units but it cuts a pretty good shaft.

Wow. I had it's twin brother for a while. Bought it used from DZ. I retired it a while back in favor of one I built myself.

I made this one for someone else but mine is almost identical.

That's nice. It looks a little more sophisticated than mine but it appears to work in a similar fashion. I remember seeing your old one in your web site "shop tour" a year or so ago. I was thinking they were almost identical. Same guy probably made them. Now that I have it and see how it works, I was thinking of building another with a few design improvements. That's a little ways off though...I'm pinching pennies for a cnc still.
