Years ago when I was actually good I mostly played with a $100 Green label Mali I won off a Navy guy. Eventually Judd Fuller made me a cue and I played with that until I took a 20 year hiatus. It was stolen just as I got back into pool (sigh)
Saw a listing on EBAY for a Mali that looked just like my old one. Starting bid was $149 I offered $100 he took it.
Didn;t even read the description but it was listed as 16.5oz with a slight wobble in the shaft and noticeable dings
I called my old Mali a toothpick because it was under 17 ounces and 12.4 mm.
Get the cue, shaft is 12.4mm and it weighs 16.7oz. Shaft seems fine to me and is actually quite high quality shaft wood.
Well, it plays pretty great. I have been just going to matches with a 1x2 George and the Mali and just using it even for breaks. Its fun.
It would be a perfect starter cue for almost anyone, maybe with a slightly heavier weight.
The Green label Malis really punch way above their weight. They were terrific cues. Nothing fancy but great players.
Funny thing is that after a few days I remembered a mark my old Mali had and this one has the same chip, It is possible that somehow without looking for it I just stumbled on the exact Mali I used all those years ago.
I will go back to my Tascarella but enjoying this a lot. Still getting 3 pretty high end customs this year starting with a PFD. But something tells me I may just go back to this again at some point.
