hohmann just won the 14.1 tournamnet in NJ,,, resoundingly 200-107, as he apparantly had been dominating throughout. it says he's a 400 ball runner, as is engbert, i believe...... then you have ortmann.

14.1 seems to be very popular in germany.

it also says that the onlookers agreed that hohmann may be the best 14.1 player today. have they seen engbert yet? and, of course, you have the untapped potential of all those snooker players in europe.

gadzooks!!! i think hohmann is probably the tip of the iceberg.

When I was in Germany from Oct99-Oct02 I played on a German dominant league. We played one day a week (Sundays) and as a team we played 3 different games, 8ball, 9ball and 14.1. Each player only played 2 of the 3. Example: I would play 8ball first match, then 14.1 second match. My teamate would play: 14.1 then 9ball. 14.1 is a very dominant game in Germany and Europe in general. I've learned so much about the game while playing with the Germans. They tend to be more offensive though, but can still play a good safety!

you snuck in your post while i was editing mine. i figgered you'd post:);)

that's great! at least 14.1 is appreciated,,,,and being played REALLY well!

haha!! I loved playing with the Germans! They are great people, very friendly (at least the ones I knew), and we learned a lot from each other. The pool scene in Germany is much better than here in Korea! I can't wait to get back to the good ol' USofA!! I love the game of 14.1 personally, but not too many like to play it, "it takes to long", is what I usually hear, or "what's 14.1?"

Bruin,

You know you can't snooze in this forum!

The thing I don't like about 14-1 is that when you play a very good player, you tend to sit for long periods. This can be very boring! It also makes for pressure when you're up playing because you know that if you miss, you'll be getting seriously bored again.

I think that's why I like 1h so much. You usually get to shoot quite a bit even if they are defensive shots.

Rick - i really like that aspect of 14.1 - being able to watch a great player move the cue ball around, seeing their patterns, etc. i tend to learn alot (both how to play, and how they play, so i can know their weaknesses) and love watching someone who has mastered something do what they are good at.

but you have many more years in the game than i do, so you probably aren't as needy for pointers, etc.

i do love one pocket for the quick turnovers, though. it's like playing speed chess sometimes. you can pull your opponent into traps pretty easily if you're playing things right... lots of fun.

I just prefer to be at the table. If I want to watch a game, I'd rather it be between two other players. Mainly, I just love to play!

400 ball run is unbelievable, I wished I didn't suck so much at 14.1 or I would play it alot more. Germany seems to be a hotbed for 14.1 players (not to mention pool in general) I heard Ortmann is one hell of a 14.1 player as well, too bad he hardly competes anymore.

I watched Ortmann a couple of years ago on TV. He won the challenge of champions or something where the winner takes all. I was really impressed with his game. I wouldn't mind watching him play more especially because he's tall. I'm a little over 6' and find that it's a little tough on my lower back to bend over so much.

14.1 is the only game i like to watch,,,,if i'm playing someone good.. try playing 30 pt. games.

ortmann is my favorite.
i like his open bridge. but there are two ortmanns,,,,the practice ortmann and the tournament ortmann. the practice ortmann is a monster,,,his pace is fast(check out his early 14.1 tapes from 10 years ago). no one gives me more a sense of the shot being dead than when he's at the table. yeah, i know they all shoot great, but it's his mannerism around the table.

the tournament ortmann, by contrast , is very slow and deliberate. i think it hurts his rhythm and it lacks panache.

Speaking of thorsten he is a Great player! I saw him in baltimore at the sudden death 7-ball. He made it to the final but lost to johnny archer, this guy can play he has a good stroke and a good since of playing postion, look for him to win many titles in the years to come!
