14.1 on a bar box

I'm just wondering what the general consensus is of straight pool runs on a bar box. If someone runs 100 balls on a 7 footer, is that still something of great merit? Do straight pool players stick their nose in the air when they see bar box runs posted?

I have a 7' table at home and I've only begun my journey into straight pool. I don't know if I would call it a vastly easier game than the bigger tables, but it is different. More congestion for sure.

Short answer, no. There's no "nose in the air" here about great runs on a barbox. There are stipulations about being added to the AZB 2013 Straight Pool Challenge thread, sure, because a very high run on a barbox is NOT on the same level as someone else's very same high run on a 9-footer.

You might want to ask Dave Segal (SpiderWebComm) about this. He and I agree that high runs on a barbox are easier, and've sported some great numbers that exceed our 9-foot numbers (e.g. I ran a 143 on a barbox when I was vacationing in Colorado a couple years ago [the place -- Greenfields Sports Bar -- had a ''free pool Wednesday" and opened up the sides of all the barboxes so no coins were needed / balls could be spotted]). I believe Dave did the same in his area as well.

What the barbox does leverage, is as you say -- dealing with congestion and clustering. And, I'd like to offer the fact that you have to be SHARP with combinations, because on a barbox, they are key to continuing the run! Not being good in dealing with congestion or being weak at combinations will prove deadly for a good run on a barbox.

If you have some good runs, please feel free to post them. One thing you can count on when you're here -- this is an OPEN LEARNING environment here. And we're very supportive as well. We just don't like dishonesty or fish stories. ;)

I started on 8 ft tables. The 3 tables i played on had been tough. Pockets had been like they re on nowadays tough 9footers. Furthermore i learnt (tried :D) to learn straight pool oldschool. You learn definitley a lot about exact position play. Playing just for angles is more difficult but the shotmaking itself is a lot harder.
