I am speechless. I had not heard of his passing until today. I just met John a few weeks ago at Skinny Bob's and I had the pleasure of playing pool with him for several hours.
Although we only played one pocket that day, he talked about the upcoming 14.1 tournament and encouraged me to play in it. After our games, John sat at my table for a while, and we had a great conversation.
John was very passionate about 14.1 and although I've never met his son (John III), I know from our conversation that John was extremely proud of him, and loved him very much.
I also learned about John's passion for collecting vintage cues. The cue he played with during our short time together is older than I am.
It is a rare opportunity to meet such a gentleman who is willing to share his knowledge, experience, and passion with a total stranger such as myself.
Although I barely knew him, I will surely miss him. My thoughts are with his family, and his many friends in our pool community.
