One poster from Japan brought up Stuart Pettman's book - As Sometimes Seen On TV:

which brought me to an extract:

Interesting read

Never heard of beer coasters being used to level a table, seems to me they would be too soft.
I thought the standard practice was to use playing cards. :D

I highly recommend Stuarts book. He has a sharp wit and provides great insight into the world of snooker and what it's like to be a professional. It's really a completely different approach to anything I've read before in cue sports as it's not really an autobiography at all. Closer to a blog than anything. He also provides his own perspective on the Barry Hearn take over, which occurred towards the end of his tenure as a player.

I have read the extracts and really should get the book it's looks like a great read. I played about ten miles down the road from Elite before Stuarts time but I have played a few of the other guys from there, they always had some strong players.

As a side note cards are too slippery to shim a table leg :)
