3/8-10 & 3/8-11

OK, I do feel a bit stupid but I had several McDermotts with the 3/8-10 pin and picked up an OB-1 to use with them.

Soon after I had the chance to buy a used custom shooter and break jump from a local cue maker and picked them up. I looked at the pin and it appeared similar to my McD's so I grabbed some 3/8-10 joint caps and I tried them on the shooter and they worked fine. When I tried another set on the Jump/Break they didn't fit. I just went without and saved wondering why they didn't fit for another day.

I then tried my OB-1 on the shooter and it also screwed right on. I was pleased that it felt snug going on figuring that it fit well. I have used the OB-1 exclusively on it for the last few months.

Recently I purchased another set of caps for the break/jump and the shaft protector screwed in fine but the butt protector again would not fit. I asked a buddy of mine (also deals cues) and he immediately told me that that wasn't a 3/8-10 pin The threads are not as deep and he figures its a 3/8-11 pin.

So now I'm feelin a bit stupid and wondering if I have fubared the threads in my OB-1 shaft.

Good part of the story is that I have gone to the original shaft on my stick and I am shooting better than I have with the OB.

Thanks for listening

What the difference is, is number of threads per inch. a 3/8-10 has 10 threads per inch while a 3/8-11 has 11 threads per inch. They both have a diameter of 3/8".

Yes

I know the difference is threads per inch, the pins appeared similar. I now know the threads on the 3/8 10 look a bit deeper on the pin (might be an illusion)

It could also be radial. Like the one in the picture. If so, then there is no size. It's just called radial.

The first pic is a uni-loc Radial, made by the same company that made the quick release uni-loc joint on most predators and lucasi cues. The second picture is not a true radial, I call it the knock off radial, or known as 3/8x8 radial, it is used on some imported cues. The shafts for Uni-Loc Radial and 3/8x8 radial are not interchangeable.

Wow, This is some great information, I had no idea there were the 2 3/8-10 pins. My McDermott pins look like the one on the left. My Brian King cue pins look like the one on the right (I had assumed it was 3/8-11) so they both could be the same thread.

The good news could be that I didnt fubar my OB-1 shaft

The bad news is none of my caps fit the modified 3/8-10 pin if that is what it actually is.

I have a couple radial cues also (my Sly and Diveney) but no caps for either...yet
