3 inch wood joint?

does anyone kno if this is a good joint on a break jump cue ,ive never seen this type of joint its bout 2 to 3 inches long and very thick and al wood the guy ses its for firmer hit ,what u guys think should i buy or stick to metal joint? oh and does it help to chalk a phenollic tip?? or not?
 
I take it you are talking about a carom type joint? The wood joint is a good one if you like it. I have never seen one on a break/jump cue, but I have them on a couple carom type cues. One thing to check out is whether it will fit in the kind of case you like. The shaft on a wood joint cue can bee too long and/or too thick near the joint to fit in some cases. I have some that only fit in a semi soft case. Maybe why you see billiard players with the soft cases. Depends on the cue and the case though. 3 inches sounds pretty long tho. Is that the length of the wood screw?
 
not sure on lenght but ure right i was thinking same thing ,will it fit my case?lol i guess ill have to see that first but if it does fit would u say its an ok buy for 75 bucks?i like the cue and i like to get it cuz noone i kno has this type of joint
 
I think you're talking about the SP Fury J/B. I recently purchased a few of these because I already had the other Fury J/B. I was surprised when they came, that they had the wooden pin in the shaft like a carom cue.
I personally have not tried it and to be honest I'm not really a fan of Fury. Some people don't want to spend very much money on a j/b and that's their choice.
I personally have seen 2 shafts split down the middle after 2 or 3 break shots attempted. Quality ?????
It's no secret that they're made in Asia and you get what you pay for!!!!
I'm sure also, they're many satisfied customers and they will tell you it breaks a ton and blah,blah,
I personally would never spend my money on one.

thanxz no sho,im sure the dealer will say theres a warranty but im not into returning stuff and have him give me some fineprint crap but it would benice if i had the pros and cons of this j/b cue and y should i chalk it if it has a phenollic tip ?
 
the whole point of chalk is to provide friction between the tip and the cue ball. I also use sandpaper to rough up my phenolic tips so they hold chalk even better ;)
 
i was not aware u could scuff the phenolic tips ,but now my main question is should i buy this cue or should i buy a cue with normal steel joint?
 
Is the wood joint like the one below? It should be a very nice b/j if made well. It would be very solid.

yes its just like that,the dealer says its very hard hit i like the looks of the joint , i think im gonna buy it just for the looks of it im sure it has a warranty if it happens to break , i hope lol
