3 Texas rules to debate and see if people have called
these during a tournament and also during a money match.
7.2: Game Concession
A player may not concede a shot or game at any time. If a player concedes a shot or game, the penalty is loss of that rack and the loss of an additional game (the next rack). If an opponent begins or completes the act of breaking down their cue stick while the player at the table is on the hill (potential final game of the match for player shooting), it will be considered a concession by the oppponent and a loss of the game and/or match. Any other action by the opponent that is determined to be a concession (while on hill game) will result in a loss of game/match.
7.7: Ball Tapping
Ball tapping during racking, in either a match or practice on an assigned tournament table is forbidden. The penalty is loss of the game for each infraction; the tournament director may impose the penalty with or without warning. (See rule 2.3)
7.8: The Silent Match
Any player or observer who disturbs or disrupts an opponent or other players during a match may be subject to the "Silent Match" rule. Once the ruls is imposed by the tournament director, the player may not speak to anyone and the match will be overseen by the tournament director or assigned match referee. If an infraction occurs after the rule is imposed, the player shall lose one game per infraction and/or a loss of match, suspension and/or expulsion from the tournament. If the player is an observer, the tournament director may impose the silent rule and/or have the player or others removed from the playing area. The decision of the tournament director is final.
==> These are 3 interesting rules, and how they mgiht be applied in
a tournament vs. a money match.
Conceding a shot/game - I can see it now, it is 6-5 your opponent
on top, and he concedes the 9 ball for you to make it hill-to-hill, and
you say the match is yours because of the rule which states it is loss
of game plus 1 extra game.
Ball tapping - Who has ever called a foul for ball tapping and taken
a game from their opponent for it? I have said on occasion, "Stop
doing that" when an opponent has gone on a ball tapping rampage.
Lets see -- you tapped that rack 7 times, so I win the set .... lol
Silent Match - I have approached tournament directors about this
in tense tight matches and some ass**** is disturbing the match
with talking or flagrant actions around the match table. I can just
see this in a money match with an ass**** opponent, and you say,
"Okay, I am invoking the 'Silent Match' rule of Texas Express. From
now on, you can not speak to anyone".
You know, it's funny, but players in a Money match usually agree to
play with Texas Express rules, I wonder how many of them would really
like it if they were applied like they are stated....
Oh, 1 more that is interesting ... Practicing on a different table while
playing a match is a loss of game .... I could have called that one
many times.
What are your thoughts of these rules?
