3 Texas rules to debate and see if people have called
these during a tournament and also during a money match.

7.2: Game Concession

A player may not concede a shot or game at any time. If a player concedes a shot or game, the penalty is loss of that rack and the loss of an additional game (the next rack). If an opponent begins or completes the act of breaking down their cue stick while the player at the table is on the hill (potential final game of the match for player shooting), it will be considered a concession by the oppponent and a loss of the game and/or match. Any other action by the opponent that is determined to be a concession (while on hill game) will result in a loss of game/match.

7.7: Ball Tapping

Ball tapping during racking, in either a match or practice on an assigned tournament table is forbidden. The penalty is loss of the game for each infraction; the tournament director may impose the penalty with or without warning. (See rule 2.3)

7.8: The Silent Match

Any player or observer who disturbs or disrupts an opponent or other players during a match may be subject to the "Silent Match" rule. Once the ruls is imposed by the tournament director, the player may not speak to anyone and the match will be overseen by the tournament director or assigned match referee. If an infraction occurs after the rule is imposed, the player shall lose one game per infraction and/or a loss of match, suspension and/or expulsion from the tournament. If the player is an observer, the tournament director may impose the silent rule and/or have the player or others removed from the playing area. The decision of the tournament director is final.

==> These are 3 interesting rules, and how they mgiht be applied in
a tournament vs. a money match.

Conceding a shot/game - I can see it now, it is 6-5 your opponent
on top, and he concedes the 9 ball for you to make it hill-to-hill, and
you say the match is yours because of the rule which states it is loss
of game plus 1 extra game.

Ball tapping - Who has ever called a foul for ball tapping and taken
a game from their opponent for it? I have said on occasion, "Stop
doing that" when an opponent has gone on a ball tapping rampage.
Lets see -- you tapped that rack 7 times, so I win the set .... lol

Silent Match - I have approached tournament directors about this
in tense tight matches and some ass**** is disturbing the match
with talking or flagrant actions around the match table. I can just
see this in a money match with an ass**** opponent, and you say,
"Okay, I am invoking the 'Silent Match' rule of Texas Express. From
now on, you can not speak to anyone".

You know, it's funny, but players in a Money match usually agree to
play with Texas Express rules, I wonder how many of them would really
like it if they were applied like they are stated....

Oh, 1 more that is interesting ... Practicing on a different table while
playing a match is a loss of game .... I could have called that one
many times.

What are your thoughts of these rules?

One of the tournament directors would have to verify this but I'm pretty sure this happend at the Tiger Planet Pool tourney last night. The gentleman went up to the tournament table to talk to Ceci & I believe Andy was there too.... I didn't quite hear everything he said, but I do know that he conceded a 9 ball & was not aware of the rules.... Oh yeah, cuequeen was there too, maybe she heard all of it???

At every Tiger Planet Pool tourney there's always a table set up with flyers that contain the rules, flyers that contain the points list, Tiger Promo pics of Shawn Putnam (he's a Tiger player rep & plays at some of these events) & they also have flyers & magazines of their other sponsors....they do a GREAT job of giving people all the info they need from the rules of the game to info on all of their sponsors....Know the rules folks... can save you some heartache down the road. ;)

I've just been to a EPBF rules seminar and there are a few things to be considered here:
-There are rules and regulations. Rules are usually quite clear, regulations aren't so strickt. The emphasis on regulations is usually on the word "may" and usually it's up the TD or head referee to invoke regulations.
-The rules can't cover all situations. The final word in these comes always from the TD.

In rule (regulation) 7.8 there's the word may in it, it's up to the tournament TD to invoke the silent match rule. The decision of one of the players to go to the silent match rule is not enough. It's up to the TD if the regulation is put into action. In rule 7.7 is the same thing, the TD may invoke this rule. It's not up to 1 player to decide that he's supposed to get 1 rack if his opponent tapped the balls. The same goes with the conceding a rack -rule. The TD has always the final word.

Never wish to get extra racks in money matches. I'm sure no one will give you any racks based on these regulations :)

But, on the rule on practising on another table, I'd call an instant foul if my opponent would shoot some balls on another table. Common sense should tell the opponent that it's not allowed. Apparently some players don't read the rules and get upset when called a foul upon. But being ignorant on certain rules does not mean you can break them.

Just my two cents.

I was getting beat 3-2 and a kid conceded a game to me, which became two games so I was then ahead 4-3. The TD said in the players meeting about rule 7.2 because he wanted everyone to shoot every shot. It was called several times from what I saw during the tournament. I went on to beat the kid 7-3. It was a tide turner for me.

I like the rule personally....the other two are more debatable.
