Wondering about comparisons between these shafts. I own a 314, but am wondering whether there is a comparable shaft out there with better feel.

Please no endorsements of any of these cues, just comparisons between shafts of players who own 2 or more, or have thoroughly tried them out themselves.

Thanks!

most by a long way of what I've read about the ob-1 seems to say it's better than the 314. more or less the same deflection characteristics, and feels and sounds nicer than the 314. mind you, from my experience, that's not saying much! the 314's i've hit with made a nasty clangy sound. although there is no doubting how it plays of course.

How bout the 314-2?

Well, I play with an ob-1 shaft and have access to a 314-2 shaft. The only difference I see/feel is that the 314-2 is slicker. With my ob-1, after the 1st hour of playing, I have this urge to constantly (every rack?) wipe the shaft with a cut up table cloth or a paper napkin. But then, I've never played the 314-2 that much, usually just for a couple of games at a time.

I have a Universal smart shaft LS and have been wondering the same thing about the predator 314-2. Not that I'm unhappy with the hit, just curious. My Universal has a 3/8x10 adapter and moori medium tip. I played originally with a Mcdermott stock shaft with a triangle tip, and the hit of the Universal LS is very similar. Somewhat dampened, but solid. I can't see how the joint would make any difference on the feedback of the hit since it has the XTC ferule and dampening technology inside the front of the shaft. I hear a lot of people complaining about the hit/feel of the 314 but loving the results. I never played with a 314 so I don't really know what they are complaining about, but I would like find out. I can't find anyone locally with a 3/8x10 314 to let me test.

All in all, I'm very happy with the hit/feel and control of the Universal LS, It felt good from stroke one. If you ever have the chance to compare all 4 side by side, by all means post it, it would make a great thread.

Good Luck,
Mike

I have 2 ob 1 a predator314 and have used a tiger x I sold to Varney I like the OB 1's the best and the 314 second but have not tried a 314-2

I think you might want to define what you like in a shaft, in terms of feel.

The shafts are all different in hit, and "feel" is very subjective.

If you can identify what you like in terms of "feel," maybe someone can offer advice along those lines. THe only trouble is that since the terms are so subjective, you'll have to convey it in a universal way.

I find it funny that all the time I used to hear people thought Predator 314s were too stiff. Now lately people seem to feel they're too whippy. Funny that some people can hit with the same shaft and come up with two different descriptions--that are so diametrically opposed--of the same hit.

I have a Cue Wiz pad, which costs about $6 & makes the shaft feel really smooth with far fewer applications than you are describing.

In terms of hit-- I have a 314 shaft and recently just tried my friend's Falcon with ivory ferrule/joint. It also had a soft tip. I like the hit really well, as it felt like it had much more feel than my Stainless steel Jacoby and 314.

I started playing with 1 piece house cues and have been used to those. Now I have beter control of the 314 and stainless steel, but I still think there is some feeling lacking in my play. I had a great feeling of softness from the ivory of the Falcon.
