4 plus oz shafts ????

I have always wondered about this & thought it would be great to hear what everyone else thinks on this matter as well. Probably opening a BIG can of worms on this subject but what the heck.

I have always thought that if the cue is balanced well, it should play well.
Just MHO I always here people saying ''look at my 4.4oz shafts with this cue, its a monster'' but my thoughts have always been ''is the cue balanced, weighted correctly or does it just have heavy shafts that play like a TURD'' Just because it has heavy shafts doesn`t mean its gonna be a smack down, monster player. Some of the best cues I have played with only had 3.6 or 3.7oz shafts & they played extremely good. I know different strokes for different folks & different shaft tapers & so on & so on but just wanted to hear what others thoughts were on this subject. Would really like to hear what cue makers thoughts were on this subject as well.
Again not trying to start a ***t storm on this subject, just wanted to hear what others thoughts were. Thank you

Well me personally, I like a light cue. I played with an 18oz Sly sneaky for quite some time that had a pretty light shaft that played head and shoulders above a lot of other cues I've had, many with heavier shafts. Same with my Lambros sneaky. 18.5oz, and plays amazing - I prefer it to another Lambros I had that was the same weight but had one of those so-called "monster" 4+oz shafts. Likewise, I have a Bluegrass (typically heavier cues) that has one of those "monster" shafts and plays like a tree trunk (in a good way). My prognosis? Doesn't matter.

Of course what's meant to be taken from the mention of a 4+ ounce shaft is that the wood is good and old and dense, but for me that never meant a thing as far as playability. I think both a light and heavy shaft can play amazing or like utter garbage depending upon who's making it and putting on the taper and what ferrule/tip it has. I myself prefer the good old milk dud made by some guy on here you may have heard of...:grin:
