I bought a Cynergy shaft and it doesn't screw completely onto my Joss and other 5/16-14 butts. The 3/8-10 doesn't fit on my McDermott D-6 as well. I figure I need to run a tap through. They both stop about 1/2 way onto the threads.

I'm still looking for a 3/8-10 tap. Will be tapping via hand tool.

The Drill America taps work fine. I bought several of their kits which include the plug, tap, and bottom taps for each thread.

Did you order the correct shaft for your pin? Does your butt have a 5/16" x 14 pin??

Yes. Joss 2000 series model# 2020. 5/16-14
Yes, the other one is McDermott D series, D-6. 3/8-10.

I also have cues with 5/16-18 and 3/8-11. It's definitely not those.

My joint protectors screw on without issue.

Yes correct shaft models for both pins.

I think the larger pin comes 2 ways.3/8x10 and 3/8x10 mod. Not sure but the mod might need a larger drill would be the easiest way to explain it

Yeah, there are 2 types. The minor diameter is different between them. The McDermott D-6 is not a modified 3/8-10. It’s a standard 3/8-10. The D-6 is a ~30 year old cue, and has the v-groove on the pin.

I know that the D series McDermott pins look like the current McDermott pins, I have a couple of D series and even though they look like the current pins used by McDermott they are different. a new style shaft goes about half way onto a D series butt then gets hard to turn, I'm not sure which is a 3/8" x 10 and which one is something else.

Perhaps, but I’m asking for tap recommendations and not trying to debate that 3/8-10 is not 3/8-10.

Anyway, stuffed the shaft onto the McD with paraffin wax, guessing the grooves were not wide enough. Ordered the linked tap for the metal threaded 5/16-14. I’m guessing it’s the same issue, the grooves probably need more slop in them.
